I wouldn't put any faith in that article. Lexus has already stated the GS will be moving to the new platform and the article shows a picture of an ES interior instead of a GS one.

From CarsDirect dated August 30th, 2017.. "Its next full redesign isn't anticipated to debut until at least the 2019 model year barring any surprises". Link: http://www.carsdirect.com/2018/lexus/gs-350

Here's another link from August 2nd from a site I'm not familiar with:
https://www.topspeed.com/cars/lexus/...-ar176928.html

I have a GS460 with 96k miles, so I was hoping Lexus would be a bit more forthcoming with either pulling the plug or letting us in on a new model date. Not super impressed with Infinity nor Acura's offerings, so I've been looking at the Audi S5 Sportback, as well as the BMW 4 and 5 series and even Jaguar (for a possible lease only situation). But after having six Lexus vehicles, it's difficult to make the UK / German transition primarily due to reliability concerns. I'll be attending the OC Auto show next month, but I've been disappointed with Lexus' showing the past two years in both OC and LA.. Other than a Jeep I owned in high school, I've never considered a domestic vehicle - but hey, maybe it's time to look closer to home!

Any thoughts?

You should check out Genesis and the G80 and G90 if you are worried about reliability from the Euro brands, they are solid cars with solid engines.

Hopefully it is not just another rumor they don't do through with but Acura is supposed to finally get a RWD sedan after the RL. Infinti should have a new sedan too in that time.

I don't think Lexus is just going to throw in the towel on the GS, they absolutely need a RWD offering in this class. Not having one would be crazy. Hopefully if it will still be priced so much above the ES it will be seen as a worthy upgrade and worth the premium.
