Very nice cars gents or gals. BMW are great driver's cars, but too costly out of warranty. The GS wasn't even on my shopping list til the last minute test drive and I rethink about turbo'd engines. I'm in the same boat as all of you, not enough time to keep it running in top shape. Even though I was a "diy'er", I'd rather spend the time and money on more important things now.
My brother had a 2013 535i. It broke down on him too many times for his liking. He traded it in for a King Ranch F-150 while it sat in the shop broken down for the last time on him. My 2013 GS has treated me pretty well. When it comes down to it, it's a Toyota. Legendary quality!
Before I bought the 2013 F Sport last year I was close to getting a 2013 535i M Sport. What steered me to the Lexus was all the 'issues' and 'repair' threads on the BMW forums for that car. It also helped make my decision to buy Lexus from seeing my neighbors M Sport X5 in the shop literally every three to four weeks for one issue or another for the first six months after he bought it. He did not care too much since it was under warranty and got to put miles on all the loaners he had.

I would care... buy an expensive car but half of the time driving a loaner, don't make sense to me

I was considering a cpo 535 or 550 too, but I was afraid of the same situation. It's been two weeks now with my GS and its growing on me more. I'm glad I joined CL, seeing all the nicely modded 4gs here gives me a lot of inpiration.
I've been on the Bimmer forums/boards over the years. And when people start complaining about their cars, there's always some pro-BMW fanboy/shill who chimes in "I've been driving my (insert BMW model here) for years and I haven't had any problems".
You guys should check out the snotty remarks made towards Lexus owners on the Mercedes Benz boards.

Just like us being snotty towards Kia/ Hyundai? J/k they've really stepped up their game. I looked at the new Genesis but the resale value shy'd me away. People who makes snotty remarks against other makes are generally not car people. So we shouldn't pay them no mind.
I was close to purchasing a 535i M Sport but BMW's CPO steered me away. Unlike Lexus, BMW only certs their vehicles up till 100K. But the thing is that after 50K, it's only drive-train will be covered until the 100K. So hearing BMW's history with major electrical issues, I figured I stay clear from that.
Went from a CPO '07 550i to a '13 gs350 f sport and then 6 months ago to a CPO '14 M5. Not any kind of BMW fanboy, in fact have had 3 other GS's, but I will share two items. One the cpo warranty covers much more than just the power train (I read it pretty thoroughly as I know the M5 won't be cheap if something failed) and two I never I had to use it on my 550i. That thing was rock solid until I sold it with 90k on the clock and I still see it driven around town today 3.5 years later. I still miss that one. Only reason I traded it was bc it was getting a bit old for me. Typically only keep cars for tops three years.

Meh, they can make all the snotty remarks they want. At least I can drive my Lexus worry-free 365 days a year. Guy who works in my office bought an E350 last year. He was without it for 3-4 months starting during this past holiday season.
Let me first state that I am very happy to be leasing my 2015 GS 350 Atomic Silver/black interior with luxury package. But I do agree about the e39. The e39 exterior has always looked great to me - especially those with sport package - not mention the handling/performance. My 1999 528i was a manual and pretty much trouble free for the couple of years I had it. Even though I bought it with 155k miles on it, you couldn't tell by how well it looked and how well it ran due to the extensive maintenance kept up by the owner. Interestingly, he had moved on to a 6 speed manual Acura TL SH-AWD. Anyway, I started to wish I had gotten an e39 with the sport package. Then after riding in a coworker's e60, I got the urge move up to a CPO 2010 535i black on black with sport automatic transmission. It wasn't the 550i but she was no slouch! I really enjoyed the car and intended to keep it for the long haul (outside of warranty) - as my co-worker had experienced minimal issues with his. I also thought since it was the last year of the e60 that any of the turbo / high pressure fuel pump issues had been worked out. Well, I had three fuel injectors, and a couple other engine issues fixed under warranty. I saw what I would have paid (which definitely wasn't cheap) and also came to grips with the facts that I had not driven the car anywhere near its potential and probably never would. I realized I had come to prefer the Lexus' approach of the 4GS' combination of luxury with higher reliability and impressive performance over higher performance with luxury and lower reliability.
I had an '08 E60 535i that I LOVED. It was the best car I have ever driven. The power (with a JB4 tuner) was INCREDIBLE. The sport suspension with active damping was amazing. The brakes were phenomenal. Loved the look of the car too.
Well, after the car went into limp mode 7 TIMES in a 10 miles trip, I knew the love affair was over. I couldn't trust it (pulling out in front of a semi was taking my life into my own hands). They replaced the HPFP AGAIN (3rd time in 3 years), and I put it up for sale. I found my 4GS out of town and drove my BMW to trade it in. Guess what? It went into limp mode on the way. I knew I had made the right decision. As the months of reliable driving my 4GS go by, I miss the car less and less....
