I assume your oil and filter was changed at 10k miles and this tested oil had ~5k miles of service on it. Regardless, it looks good...and future oil tests with this mileage will probably look even better.

Looks like his oil sample is from the original oil that came with the car and he sent it in after clocking 14.7k miles?

If so, he is not going by the minimum recommended oil and filter change requirement. I can't imagine that. Plus, the 10k mile oil and filter change is free.

Just goes to show 3K oil changes are too frequent as perpetuated by the quickie lube places. Even 5K is way too frequent. My old Camry was every 7,500 miles on conventional oil. I changed it once a year. 15 years and still running strong when I sold her to a friend in 2013.

So what, he is guilty of going 4.7k miles past his recommended oil change....what a crime

While it is certainly not a crime, Lexus conveys a certain responsibility to the owner/lessee for performance of the required maintenance as indicated in the Owner's Manual. Any failure caused by the lack of maintenance is not covered by the warranty. Engine oil and filter are to be changed at 10k miles or 1 year, whichever comes first.

You are responsible for performance
of the required maintenance indicated
in the Owner’s Manual and this guide.
Lexus will not deny a warranty claim
solely because you do not have
records to show that you maintained
your vehicle. However, any failure or
noncompliance caused by lack of
maintenance is not covered by this
warranty.

This is why I hate the dealers. The manual calls for 10,000 mile oil change intervals, yet the dealer sets the computer for 5,000 mile oil changes. The computer reminds you for an oil change with about 1000 miles to go. I feel like ill be at the dealer getting oil changes every 10-12 weeks. Screw that. I'm glad you posted this I'm gonna go 10,000 miles on this oil change and send the oil for analysis to see how my engine is doing. I'm currently at 37,000 miles.

The dealer does not set the computer for 5,000 mile oil changes. 5,000 mile oil changes are not required...

The 'Maintenance Reminder' reminds you at 5,000 mile intervals that 'maintenance' is needed, not necessarily that the engine oil and filter need changing, which is only required every 10k miles. The 5k mile maintenance is basically a check-up where fluid levels, ,etc. are inspected and topped-off, brakes are checked and a tire rotation is recommended. Many people forgo the 5k mile maintenance intervals and only go in for the 10k service intervals (primarily for the required oil and filter change).

bigblack06 has yet to confirm or deny whether this oil test was the original fill from Lexus or the 2nd fill after a typical oil and filter change required at ~10k miles.

Yes that's correct sorry for the late response. I got it changed late it's my first time being late and I wanted to test if it could go to 15k like bmws not saying I'll do that again but it proves it can.
