Default 2016 GS 200t Fuel Economy Shows Why Lexus Is Going Turbo

The 2016 GS 200t's highway fuel economy estimate is significantly better than the 2015 GS 350, and nearly as good as the 2015 GS 450h hybrid.

I don't think we should compare the economy of the GS200t with the GS350. We should compare apples with apples.

For example let's compare GS200t with BMW 528i and with Volvo S80 T5. About the same size luxury cars, 2.0 4-cylinder turbo engines, same power and same torque. What is the result?
Lexus has the worst implementation so I don't get excited by what Lexus offers us.
Lexus engineering needs to do a lot of work to catch up the competition.

Lexus: 0-60 in 7.2s, highway economy 33 mpg
BMW528i: 0-60 in 6.1s, highway economy 34 mpg
Volvo S80 T5: 0-60 in 6.3s, highway economy 37 mpg

Hopefully the 200t engines will prove to be as reliable as other Toyota powerplants.

I think that the 200t will be adequate for many buyers and hopefully it will broaden the GS appeal/sales accordingly. I just can't imagine it's going to sound anywhere near as good under WOT as the 350 though.

+1 good analysis. Way better to compare to other turbo setups.

Comparing the GS200t to the GS350 or the GS450h is just silly. Also, if you're going to compare across the Lexus line.. why not add the other stats (weight, 0-60 times, etc).

These cars need to lose weight first. Putting a smaller engine on a car that is even heavier than the 350 doesn't make sense to me. U will lose that MPG getting up to speed.

Same with the RC, a coupe should not be heavier than a 4 door GS!

I'll chime in, just like everyone else... That's great the 200t get better gas milage..what would you expect from a 2.0 forced induction engine with it's fuel tables adjusted for economic drive. But what do you think it will get at WOT and full boost? Just like any other performance car.

Anyway, I'd rather have the good old V6 3.5.... I don't think it should be compared to the 3.5 and should focus more on the 2.5. Just my opinion...

Look at the power and economy of a V6 Acura TLX then remind me why turbos are so great.

At least the Lexus 2L turbo doesn't vibrate like an Acura/Honda V6 with VCM. The FWD bias in TLX also helps with mpgs, but it's cheap solution for a sports sedan.

I remember test driving a cts and doing the remote start feature.. was not happy with the sound it gave off. Driving it was also not a pleasant experience. Sure boost was nice, but I personally am not a fan of four cylinders.. Audi vowed to make a 4 cylinder as smooth as a v8 but I'm still waiting for that day. I'm hoping the age of small displacement doesn't last long.

TLX has it right bigger displacement good gas mileage.

Yup, the NX 200t engine doesn't have the same growl as my GS 350 under WOT. Nope!

I heard Fiat-Chrysler are getting rid of their V8's by 2019 and those Hellcat engines or any of their V8's will be replaced by turbo 4 and 6. A Hellcat with a 4 cyl anyone?
