I had the window crack problem in my 3GS, so in my 4GS I run the A/C directed to my feet to avoid this from happening again. It takes longer to defrost the car but it works, plus I like to keep my car on recirculation to reduce emission smells from other cars/trucks.

Looks like the GS climate control shares the ES' issues too. On my ES I keep recirc always on to keep out exhaust smells from outside and I set the fan speed manually. AC always has to be on, even in winter, to dry out the inside air and stop fogging. It gets humid and foggy really quick if you set high heat with AC off.

The downside is occasionally getting a shocking blast of cold wind. I keep airflow at my feet to minimize this. Are other cars like this?

Thanks for all the quick responses, although I'm not sure if I'm supposed to feel like a dumb a** or old. It's just strange to me as I've used the air the same way in my cars since I've started driving and don't recall having this issue. I know my M37 never had this problem. But, we'll see what the glass guy says on Tuesday as this is the earliest they can come out.

I can say I have the same problem and I felt like an idiot the first day I brought the car home. Never been more confused on how to manage the climate and air controls. Now after these posts I am even more confused ugh

Not trying to be snarky, stop trying to manage it. Put it on auto, set the temp you like and forget it. If the temp isn't right push the talk button and say "warmer" or "colder", it'll do the rest for you. And turn on the s-flow.

I also had something hit my windshield and before I could get home the crack was 6". The next morning it was twice as long. I am having my windshield replaced tomorrow. I do not have the fogging issue. But I do feel your pain about the chip. I am embarrassed to drive the car, now. I think everyone is saying why are you driving such a nice car and you cant even get the windshield fixed.

Are you having Lexus replace the glass or another company like Safelite? Does Safelite replace with OE glass? I know when my G35 got broken into, they went through 3 pieces of crappy glass that wouldn't t roll down until they went with 3M glass that finally worked. I also find it strange that so many of us seem to have this huge cracking issue after a tiny rock chip.

My insurance company uses Safelite to do the replacement. But I specifically asked for Lexus glass. And they told me that they are getting it from Lexus. Plus for 1700+ they better be using a Lexus windshield or they are ripping me and my insurance company off.

Make absolutely sure your windshield has the 'correct' LEXUS logo name on it (just like the OE windshield that it is replacing) 'before' it is installed!

Wow, my Lexus service center does not do window replacement. They outsource all their glass work.

Is that $500 less figure just for the glass only? Or, is Sewell Lexus Certified Collision Center replacing the windshield at $500 less out-the-door?

They outsource someone to come to the shop and do the work for them...that was the price I was given from Lexus with the glass. Safelite wanted $2300

That's good to know. Do you mind sharing who your insurance provider is?
