IMO, the multi-channel DSP are over-kill for just adding a sub. A LC2i would be sufficient. It's only $60-$70.

Lexruger / how do these differ from the LX2i?

Is there any advantage to adding a cleansweep (or other comparable product) as opposed to the LX2i? Or is it truly just overkill for the particular application?

I am only looking to optimize sound system with the addition of only a sub/amp combo...

Something like the cleansweep takes all the channels that are split up into different frequency ranges and combines them into 2 channels. It also allows you to eq the sound to your liking. Without a cleansweep, you'd almost have to have an amp for each channel (bass, treble, and midbass) and then you'd have to try and set the gain on the amp to blend in each channel. Since the subwoofer channel is only 1 or 2 channels, all those extra inputs on the cleansweep won't be used if you're just adding bass.

The factory amp cuts out bass at higher volumes so you don't blow the speakers and to prevent distortion. The LC2i corrects the roll off so you get full bass at higher volume.

So the lc2i is installed after the head unit but before the factory amp (and new aftermarket amp)?

Then you can set the head unit's bass level relatively low and and use the LC2i's control to adjust the newly installed subwoofer to play most of the bass?

Between amp and speaker.

Set bass to neutral position.

The LC2i has a control **** that you have to buy separately. I had mine installed under the dash on the driver side.

Got any photos of your install?

Or particular instructions to give installer when getting this done?

What sub/amp combo are you running?

I don't have that car anymore but I had a 12" FI SSD, ported box, an old MTX 1000 watt amp, and of course the LC2i. I had a shop do the install so I don't have any tips for that area.

http://www.ficaraudio.com/product/ssd-series-ssd12/

I've had about 5 different subs and this one sounded the best.

Alpine Type-R, Kicker CVR, Kicker L5, RE Audio SR, Phoenix Gold SX.

I had the FI SSD for 7 years until it finally blew.

I've heard a JL in person before. They sound good, just pricey.

I was thinking something like the Rockford Fosgate P300-12 would be a simple addition. Reviews are pretty awesome for it.

I haven't heard the JL's in a GS yet, but overall I've found they have one of the more neutral & musical sounds among sub brands. I tend to find brands like Kicker & Rockford Fosgate to focus a bit more on making boomy bass with less focus on accurate reproduction. A system that can properly reproduce music can usually do many things, a less capable system will always be just that.

One shop told me people prefer the P3 over the Type-R. Never heard the P3 though.
