No difference. The discs will work in both Lexus and Toyota vehicles.

So, I have a Gen5 system in my GS350. According to the instructions, all I have to do is insert the new disk.

When did they revise the system so you had to hook it up to the dealer's computer?

This is a great deal for me...I still have the original maps from when I bought the car in late 2006.

 

Is there any difference between the Canadian vr. And the U.S. Vr.?

I just bought a CND 2014 GS350 AWD with tech package and the salesperson told me I just have to buy a disk to upgrade maps, no shop time required. Was I lied to already? Haven't got the car yet as its in transit.

I won't be too happy if I have to pay 2 hrs. shop time just to upgrade some maps! That is not customer service, it's a design to take my money for nothing!
Heck in my old '05 TL you just pop in the new DVD.

 

Your car navigation is hard drive based, not DVD based. In reality there is not much need to ever update the nav. On my last car, a 07 ES, I never upgraded it. Since the operation system, graphics etc never change whats the point. I took a couple of road trips from Texas to the west coast with that ES and never once was there any upgraded data that would have made a lick of difference.

 

It depends on where you live and how much the roads are changing. Here its worth upgrading every 3-4 years.

$159 installed is still a great deal. I'd pay that.

 

Yup, for $159 all in would be a reasonable price! Even $200 all in, every two years would be worth it.

The main reason for an update would be for areas where cities are growing fast!

It wouldn't be as big a deal if the vehicle had Apple CarPlay, as we could pipe everything in from our phones. But that isn't an option.

 

Totally agree! It depends on location. Also, when you update maps you also update points of interest. Which means you won't end up on a closed gas station with an empty tank

 

Can a Toyota dealer install the USB upgrade?

 

Or end up on a closed diner when ur already starving to death in the middle of nowhere.

 

I don't think so, I don't think Toyota uses the HD nav

For the disk version....its easier than breathing to install. dont pay the dealer. It takes less than 3 minutes to do. Disk version.

 

Toyota's rates are decent. I got a few things done in Toyota for half the price before. Their techs are pretty cool and super happy to work on a Lexus. I might have to stop by and ask them if they could help with the map update.

 

Thats the disk version. This thread is about the 4GS and is in the 4GS forum...there is no disk version nav so any discussion of the installation process for that is completely off topic.
