Nav Display
Just about everyone who's been in my car has asked me if I can have the entire screen display the navigation map. It's a programming issue, but my guess is Lexus will have this option in future(2015??) models but WILL NOT issue a software update for current model GS's. This is an issue that ticks me off no end. How can Apple give out free updated OS's, with new features, to previous generation phones and computers, even those with older technology (computer chips) but Lexus will never do an OS upgrade. And if it is truly because of computer chips that can't have an OS upgrade, then that was a deliberate decision to use that silicon(chip).
Most people who buy a car at this price point don't trade in every year or two. I'm looking at keeping mine 10 years or more...my last GS was 8 yrs old when I traded in.
This upgradabity issue is a great opportunity for Lexus to stand out in a good way, yet they choose not to take it.
Correct, this is not a programmable setting. That's just how Lexus made it. Now, if in the future they change the implementation and issue a software update to existing cars, then that's a different story. But it's not a configurable setting like the other LPS (Lexus Personalized Settings).
I've never thought twice about it. I like having the windowed nav/music. I can see the point about having an option though, sometimes the screen gets cluttered when you have nav showing turn by turn and smashing 3 things together. At that point the music window should go away (or whatever you have open on the right).
After driving my GS for a while and got so used to the big/split screen, I was given a loaded 2013 RX450h as a loaner with the standard screen and I can't wait to get back into the GS. That screen is so tiny compared to the GS.
The IS screen in the loaner I had monday had me laughing. I was like, what do I do with this baby screen, send text messages on it? Never realized just how spoiled the big beautiful screen in the GS makes you until you ride in something else. It's like "every car should have this by now".
