I went the strip light route and bought the iJDMTOY brand strip light for 10 bucks. It illuminates the entire trunk quite well.

I ended up drilling a hole through the plastic lens covering the 194 bulb in the trunk and running the wire through that drilled hole. Pasted the LED strip on the outer side of the plastic lens using 3M mounting tape.

I understand why folks go the route of the LED board - its a bit of a cleaner install but I am happy with the output of the LED strip.

That is an adapter to obtain voltage from a festoon type lamp socket. The adapter replaces the original festoon lamp...and the female white plug provides voltage for the new lamp through a pigtail that plugs into the white plug.

It's a festoon base adapter for use in many interior dome lights. Not needed for trunk applications

How do you remove the light cover in a 2016 GS350? I tried a couple times but if I pry any harder I am concerned I will break it.
