Can this be disabled? Read the book yesterday, and my understanding was if you press the button they wash once. So that's what I did. I spent an hour washing my car today and got salt all over the windshield. Went to wash it with the wipers and the damn headlights jizzed all over my hood, bumper, and roof. Honestly, this entire function is retarded and useless. Just creates a mess. Any ideas?

Seems like the headlamps always get washed when I clean the windshield. Most of the time I don't care, but I froze my ***** off washing my car today and I'm a little annoyed.

 

I just had a look at the diagrams of all the fuse boxes, and there looks to be a separate one just for the headlamp cleaner, so you could try pulling that out. Search for "headlamp cleaner" in this document:

I think it was fuse #32 in the engine compartment "Type A" fuse box.

 

Does it function like the 3rd generation? I have a '10, and the headlight washers do not work when the lights are in the auto position. To me, that is disables it enough without messing with wires, fuses, etc.

 

In the 4GS the headlamp washers continue to function with the lights in Auto (at least my '14 does).

 

If the lights are on, does not matter if they are on auto, the washers will work.

 

Just turn your headlight stalk to off before engage your windshield wiper will solve the problem.

 

Useless option.
It is fuse 32(on the '13,anyway) and I'll probably just pull the fuse.

 

I thought it was too separate systems... So if I wash my windshield it will also wash my headlights.

 

I agree...i find the idea of the headlamp washers just stupid all the way around.

Mine don't spray the headlamps every time in concert with the windshield I don't think...seems like they only do it at highway speeds?

 

I am confused . Is everyone saying the headlight wash is connected to the windshield wash? I have a 2014 GS. There is a separate button to the left of the steering wheel for activating the headlight wash. I've never had the two cross.

 

There is a separate button, but the headlights also wash when you use the windshield washer at least in some situations.

 

Yes, the first time you hit the windshield washer while the headlights are on, the headlight washers activate as well.

 

That's what it is for me then, it's when they are on. Never put two and two together lol

 

I tend to think of the headlamp washers as not there to benefit me as much as to benefit other drivers. Keeping the headlamps clean reduces glare for oncoming traffic. They're mandatory in some parts of the world for cars with HID headlights for that very reason.

 

Agreed that its dumb and useless. I turn the headlights to off when running the windshield washer then back to auto when done. I think switching to DRL will also disable headlight washing.
