Default What was Lexus Thinking?

I still don't understand why the 2013 GS 350 did not come with power side mirrors, power trunk, etc. My wife's 2012 GMC Acadia Denali came with both of these features and heated and cooled perforated leather seats, Heads Up Display, NAV, DVD entertainment system, AWD, all the goodies. That's right---a 2012 GMC. And for only 50.9K (sticker). I was thinking of keeping this thing once my lease expires but not anymore. It's embarrassing, especially the lack of power folding mirrors in a 50K+ car.

What's up with Lexus? Oh well, my lease expires right around the same time the 2016s hit the showroom.

Welcome to the club of bitter '13 owners. It's all about packaging and cost for the US market. We were just about the only market that did not have those features available when the 4GS debuted. After a year of us owners complaining they took heed for the following year. Such is life in the auto market I guess.

I'm sure you realized the GS350 did not have power folding mirrors before you bought it, especially since it seems to be very important to you. If that's the most important feature you want in a car, you can find others that have it, plus AWD, HUD, power trunk, DVD entertainment system, including the 2014 GS350. Maybe you should trade your GS on a 2016 Denali when your lease expires if you prefer it to your GS.

I agree with the OP. Not including these options from the start was a mistake, especially when these options were standard on the previous generation GS.

I understand that Lexus was just trying to keep the price of the new GS as low as possible, but what I don't get is why remove these options completely? Why not make them as additional options for those who want them.

Not offering a V8 was a mistake

I guess it is our human nature to feel we are being screwed over. In Canada you would be hard pressed to not find a well equipped GS, so the cars seem to be packaged with much of what the US car have, plus headlight jets and a power trunk, but no power side mirrors on the '13. When I complained to the dealer why the Canadian spec'ed cars don't come with side and rear Lamisafe glass, I was told the California market alone is bigger the all of Canada and the American production runs are so large they can stuff the cars with all the options.

A little overly sensitive, aren't you? I really like my GS. You know the expression "love is blind?" I fell in love with the GS after a test drive. I couldn't stop myself from getting one, despite the fact that it lacked power folding mirrors. My wife thinks it's a toy because I don't drive it to work. I drive it around mostly on weekends or when I have the occasional need to take a drive of several hours. I'm still in love with it, but like a new marriage, it takes a while before the flaws start to bother you. Anyway, I'm glad I leased (my first time) and can turn this thing in after 27 months. Then I can get a new one with the essentials for a car in this price range.

I love my 2013 GS F Sport and I don't obsess over the minor improvements in the 2014 model.

Does it accelerate nicely without the 8 speed tranny? Yes. Can I park it without the folding mirrors? Yes. Can I close the trunk myself? Never a problem.

If you're handy, I'm sure you can add the power folding mirrors with minimal effort. I've purchased my power folding mirrors from eBay or had one of the local importers pick some up from from Japan for me. I know that sounds like a stretch to some of you, but if you really want it, its not.

Speaking of 8 speed automatic, I heard its sluggish compared to the '13 with the 7 speed...anyone been in both and can give their $.02?

Default signals

I love my 2013 GS350 but like the OP, I'm beginning to be bothered by some missing features that is in my 3GS, which I have kept because of how much I still love the car (gf has it now). I am missing the power mirrors and power trunk like most people on here. But I am especially bothered that Lexus still uses regular bulbs instead of LED signals, especially on the >$50K GS. I noticed that even 20,000 Chryslers and other American car companies have these features.

I still love my GS, but faults are faults.

controlled product evolution.

same reason why apple purposely omits features, for example holding back the fingerprint sensor on the iPad air and retina mini, etc.
