Default Cup Holder Door

Hello, all. I'm getting closer to buying, and the GS is still at the top of my list (unless I opt for a coupe). Anybody wonder why the opening door of the cup holder was not designed to be flush with the rest of the center console? I believe you push it down to open, but, I don't think that would hinder a better design.

I don't know why they did it like that. It irked me for like 5 mins. It doesn't bother me at all now though.

I think the thought process was to give the console some dimension.

Thanks for the replies. Lexus must have looked at it both ways and determined this was the best way to do it, in this car in particular.

When the cupholder door is closed its about an inch higher than the rest of the console (gearshift and RTC)

And inch? Maybe half that. You guys crack me up in this forum over theses small things. It's a nice change of pace thoigncoming from VW /Audi where it was about oil leaks, fuel system problems, A/C families, etc. German cars are not much for reliability.

Maybe they messed yours up.

Mine's only a half inch high. Even less than that. (or, they messed mine up?)

LOL!

When I was shopping for a luxury car, I asked a couple of mechanics I know for advice. I wanted to know if I should go with Lexus, Mercedes, BMW etc.

Their collective response was: "Well, we see German cars in our shop quite a bit."

Exactly. Lexus kind of surprised me with the new GS. The VGRS and rear steer really sharpen this car up. Plus the F Sport front is really an eye catcher. I can't seem to say that about any BMW, Audi, or Mercedes ( with the exception of the CLS550 ). But even then, none look as aggressive in design. Now we just need a GS F

Its about an inch...half inch...whatever. It doesn't bother me, its how it was designed, theres supposed to be that inch there.
