Default AC issues

Hey there folks. Have had an issue happen twice with 2013 GS. A couple of nights where the car slept outside and we got pretty cold night, heating just would start. Actually, I think the fan didn't start. As the day warmed, it started working again. Anyone else experienced that?

I know the heat doesn't come on until the engine is warm. How long after you get in the car for the heat to turn on?

Yesterday, I drove for about 30 minutes including at high speeds on a highway and it didn't come on. Only after I let the car sit for 2 hours in the sun (and I guess the day warmed up) did it go on when I restarted the engine. It was -4 (Fahrenheit) so really cold but my wife's CT had no problem heating up.

that's not supposed to happen. i warm up the car for atleast 5-10 minutes before i get in, and when i do get in it's nice and toasty in there. i usually wind up turning the heat down because it gets really hot in the car. the high intensity heater works a little too good.

something wrong with your car ac system. It does take a long time if it sits idle but if you drive it, it warms up really quick. Take it to the dealership or check the coolant level.

How is the coolant level relevant?

Is your car part of the HVAC Recall?

I know when it's cold outside ~35F, the fan takes a minute or two before it starts up...to prevent blowing cold air into the cabin!

probably not enough coolant is flowing through the heater core...just one of the possibilities.

What's the HVAC recall? Have not heard of it.

Thanks. I don't remember receiving this recall. Were all GS models affected? Or perhaps my dealership did it at a maintenance appointment and I didn't notice it on the invoice.

That being said, the problem described is different than what I experienced twice now. Mine was not a reinitializing of the system but rather it not functioning at all until the car seriously warms up.
