Default LED Reverse Lights

I just took delivery on a 2013 GS AWD today just sold my 2011 M37x havnt even had the GS for more then 24 hrs and im already itching to mod it lol. Im wondering if its possible to replace the stock halogen reverse lights with LEDs? Also i tried looking up which bulb type on the sylvania website and its not letting me choose 2013 for vehicle year. Has anyone done this mod yet?

at the risk of sounding like a blooming idiot, i thought all our lights excluding the HID HLs... were in fact LED.

The reverse bulb is 921. If LED won't get you enough the lumen output then try mini 15W HID kit for reverse.

@ syd- Nope.. The trunk, reverse, visor, turn signal, and puddle lights are all halogen. Sucks doesn't it. For a $60K car you'd think ALL the lights would be a crisp white 5k LED. But as a relative who works for Audi corporate told me "If ALL the lights were LED, then some people would go outta business."

I think the 921 bulbs from VLEDs should be bright enough. I'm just worried if the bulb will fit into the tail light housing. I had HID reverse lights before on my 3G TL just didn't like waiting for the bulbs to warm up it takes too much time. So I installed LEDs reverse lights on my previous M and the visibility was good due to I also had led plate lights so that helps

I had the same problem I tried to switch my cree bulbs over from my old GS and they wouldn't fit. Actually for the doors they are LED's I think someone changed them but not sure as I'm pretty sure they are LED's in there. So I got these ones.

This the exact same answer I got. I know BMW has made most of there lights LED now including turn signal.

HID generates more heat. Dunno if there is any long term effect on the plastic covers on the rear light cover...

A couple of before and after pics would be very helpful once you are ready to install. A picture DIY post would be very helpful also. I will stay posted for more on this.

I went with the Cree LED for reverse on my 4GS but the light pattern output and the cree projector won't do any good. The reason because the socket of the reverse lights housing was design for halogen bulbs (sit higher closer to the edge not in the middle of housing) and using the reflector housing to spread out the light. When you mount the CREE LED it won't sit in the middle of the housing therefore the cree projector will project the light into the edge of the housing.

Bottom line LED in reverse won't give any good light output for reverse then I had no choice but HID. So far the kit warm up within 5 seconds and give me enough light output and no melting/heat issue. By the time all the notification messages on the 4GS's navigation screen disappear, the hid give enough lights output.

If using the Cree LED make sure you guys tape/secure it to the socket using electric tape otherwise it will come lose due to heavy bigger bulbs, vibration and trunk slamming down.

On my other car, Cree LED reverse sit in the middle of housing and the output are bright enough.
