Default Heated steering wheel?

After 6 months of ownership I finally turned on my heated steering wheel. Only the leather portion heated up. Can this be right?

Yes, it is just the leather sections that heat up.

Kind of disappointed, since both the wood and leather sections on my Jeep GC Overland heat up.

My wife's 328 also has a full heated steering wheel. Lexus really went the cheap way with a partial heated steering wheel.

If you briskly rub the palms of your hands together for a few seconds and quickly grab the wheel you can simulate the approximate warmth provided by the heated steering wheel.
