It appears that the ECO mode is the only mode remembered when stop/starting our vehicles. SPORT and SPORT+ modes need to be reselected each time the vehicle is restarted or am I missing some hidden vehicle customization setting? It was similar on the '08 IS-F I used to own as well.

Anyone care to comment on Lexus' philosophy on this one? It's a real PITA for me.

 

I think I may have something to do with the CO2.
The car probable puts out the least CO2 when the car is running in e co mode so it car be rated at this CO2 level, but when you select sport or sport + then the CO2 would increase and possibly put the car in a different CO2 bracket.
CO2 levels in the UK determine the road tax you pay, don’t know if it’s the same in the US.
Or it come be for a completely reason…anyone ?

 

Mine does it too, but thankfully, I never use ECO mode.

 

Correct but if you select eco and dont change it the next time you start your car it will be still be in eco mode.

 

That is pretty neat actually, if your prefer other modes than Normal it's one less step for you whenever you start the car. Does it do the same for sport modes?

I'm sure it's due to the revised Sport Mode shift points affecting the miles per gallon figure. If the car was tested and is rated by the EPA in Normal Mode, then it needs to default to that mode or "better" (from a MPG perspective). Lexus could have tested the vehicle in Sport Mode, but it's likely that the windows sticker would show lower MPG numbers as well, which would negatively affect sales.

 

No, because of the EPA standards mentioned earlier. If it's any consolation, my Audi S5 also defaulted back to Normal whenever I turned off the car and Dynamic (sport) had to be hand-selected each time as well. It's not just Lexus.

 

ECO not a fan of in the GS but try ECO in a lower hp car...and it was really bad in the M56 I drove

 

I use ECO most of the time and get ~26 mpg on average

 

It's a subconscious habit now for me to switch to sport mode as soon as I start my car.

 

hey the fuelly signature shown that your average is 23.5 :P

I use freeway around 85% of my daily driving and only get around 24 but it doesn't matter if i am eco or sport test both for a full gas tank and still on 24 mpg.
