Maybe the marketing team feel that the ES is geared toward older folks who want the more comfortable ride and the convenience of a power trunk.
But in a way, I think the 2013GS was rushed to release. They left a few options out from the previous gen missing a few features the competitors are offering. Don't get me wrong, I think the 2013GS is a very nice car. But they removed the easy close trunk on the 4GS and give the ES a complete full power trunk.

Really? I cant even see why one would need this option.

Because of a power trunk option? The ES has now outclassed a GS?

I wonder why Lexus did that. Thats weird. But then again we all know that the ES is targeting older folks so it would be a added convenience.

I would be more upset if the 2013 ES out handles the 2013 GS...

i think to be exact, if i am correct, the 4gs has power trunk closing option, just that the option is not available for US spec cars

The gs has more of a sporty influence and the ES is built on comfort. That's why there is no power trunk or mirrors, the engineers didn't think it was necessary

really hard for me to buy any of that, especially when the option is available for markets outside of the US.

Cheap and stupid Lexus engineers. Only US market 4GS have no power trunk + mirror.

I wonder how much it cost them for power trunk parts? There are wires & connectors pre-wire inside the trunk lid. LEXUS SO CHEAP on this 4GS.

The Camry built for Asian market had auto power mirror, HID with washer, cool box, power rear shade, rear seat audio control, LED tail + illuminated kick plate, memory seat......

I can confirm what Rominl said. In Singapore, Luxury and F-Sport versions get fully powered trunk opening/closing. They also get auto-closing powered door mirrors, HUD, BSM and Mark Levinson as standard. In essence, the Luxury and F-Sport in Singapore are fully loaded except we don't get lane departure and Night Vision. Also we don't get AWD and our F-Sports come with 18 inch wheels, nonstaggered.

The omission of the power trunk closing mechanism in the US market is likely the result of meeting a specific pricing target. Since the GS 350 is imported from Japan currency exchange rates and tariffs inherently affect the pricing.
