My Performance Drive Video
Nice. The swear words add the reality experience. Next time, let your wife know she should always shoot videos in landscape so they can be watched on computer screens and TVs.
It's disappointing they did an auto-x course with cones. To me that will flatter the Lexus since that kind of course doesn't show the benefits of an 8-speed auto, or the high end passing power due to the 535i torque advantage.
A full race track comparison would be much more interesting.

I was there today too. I went to the one they had at Nassau back in '06 or 07. I went with the intention of buying the 3GS. After that event, I was totally turned off by the GS and ended up getting the A6. Fast forward to today, I was pretty sure I wanted to get a 4GS, and after this event I went and put down my deposit. Picking up on Saturday. This car is light years ahead of the 3GS.

PASSING, 45-65 MPH
GS350 F-Sport 2.6 sec
535i 2.9 sec
and higher 1/4 mile trap speeds :
QUARTER MILE
GS350 F-Sport 14.0 sec @ 101.0 mph
535i 14.0 sec @ 99.3 mph
also Motor Trend has acceleration figures from 0-30,0-40,0-50,0-60 all the way to 0-100. The 535i has better acceleration only till 0-50. From then on till 0-100, the GS350 is superior.
0-100
GS350 F-Sport 13.7 sec
535i 14.2 sec

So where is this mysterious 535i superior high end that you're talking about?
The reverse is in fact more accurate. The 535i has better lower end torque and the low speed auto-X actually favors engines with low end torque. The smaller 535i engine starts to falter at the high rpm/speeds where its smaller displacement engine runs out of puff precisely when the larger displacement 3.5L 2GR-FSE of the GS350 starts to shine.
The low speed auto-cross was the sole opportunity for the 535i to come out equal to the GS. On a higher speed race track where the acceleration from high speed comes into play, the 535i stands no chance against the GS350 and the gulf in timing would just widen.

[QUOTE=natnut;7180487]So how does the GS350 F-Sport compare to the 535i and the E350? Both in terms of handling and the overall impression?[/QU
First of all, the F Sport used for the timed track was RWD. I thought the Lexus was tighter and faster followed by the BMW (non M) and I didn't like the Benz. The Lexus had Dunlops and the BWM had Cont. I liked the BMW ride also.

Agree on the above. The BMW straight line takeoff might have been a tad faster than the 4gs, but hardly noticeable. What was very noticeable was the handling, breaking, and confidence building of the 4gs (both AWD lux and Fsport). Hands down better than 5.
I took a lap in the Fsport and AWD and didnt notice the differences on the course. Also didnt notice the differences in S and S+. Instructors said on a course that tight you won't feel anything. You feel it going 120mph.
Benz was a letdown quite honestly.

I think my 1998 GS 400 would have beat them all! Damn, I miss that car.
