It came with the car, so I can't complain. But to be honest, I've only used it a few times. I hate the fact that the car shuts off when you open a door.

Mine came with the remote start, don't spend a dollar on it. The fact that it shuts down as soon as you open the door IMHO makes it worthless. We have it on the Jeep and use it all the time, the Jeep requires you to sit in it with the key present and hit the brake and start button and then it cycles over to normal run mode without the engine stopping. MUCH better system, better range.

For me that killed it was the fact it works like 2 feet. Whats the point of that? Anyone have an aftermarket?

I'm not sure if it has something to do with the perforated seats but I don't feel this on the RX or previous vehicle. And the fan is working too or at least I hear the fan noise back there.
They use the existing fobs. You have to hit the lock button like 3 times and that activates the RS. We had it installed on ours but don' t use it.

I have it on my GS450h and don't use it either. The car shutting off upon entering just seems so counter-intuitive that it makes it useless. Especially because the range is not that great on the remote.

I can see the engine shutting down when you open the door would make it annoying but I wouldn't say it's useless. Remote start the car, have it cool/heat up. Open the door and restart the car. It's still as cool/warm as it was when you opened the door 2 seconds ago. Damn Lexus drivers are so spoiled. LOL

Range would be an issue though. I had an Avital remote start on my 2000 Camry and it ran flawlessly for 13 years. I could start the car from a few blocks away. I'll probably seek some aftermarket remote start as Chicago winters/summers can be brutal.

But then you have to put the engine through two startup cycles which causes wear on the starter, etc. Plus...you have to walk out to it to start it because the range is so bad.

I concede that range is definitely an issue. Lexus says 80 foot range in clear space, this is what makes it useless for most people as 80 feet generally means 20+ feet in real world situations.

As for extra wear on the starter from an extra start up cycle, it's negligible. It is after all a Lexus. My 1991 Camry is still on it's original starter and so is my 2000 Camry.

it would've been much better if RS detected the key fob. If you enter the car without the key it shuts off, with key fob it keeps running.....

I have this and I consider this a waste, only reason I have it is because it came with the car. I think your better off getting an aftermarket one as someone said it shuts off once you touch the door handle.
