4GS mega thread (UPDATED; preview drives, specs, more interior pics)
I doubt Lexus will play second fiddle with a project that is in the making for at least 2 maybe 3 years now. They'll debut the car after the M5 makes it's debut. So I'm all for the GS-F making a big splash. weighing 3700lbs. will undercut sedans like the CTS-V by 400lbs. No matter the power, even if 'only' 470hp, it'll perform mightily. 0-60 in the IS-F is already near 4.5 and it makes 415hp at 3700lbs.+ so I expect a GS-F with more than 50 more HP to hit that no problem, and the track is where it'll shine. In SportAuto tests, even the CTS-V falls behind the M3 and C63, despite it's 550hp.
I don't get the stupid hate in this forum, it's a Lexus site and we have people cracking on a non-existing car? Funny. All we have to go by is rumors from the same sites reporting the same two things, 3700lbs. and 470HP. I've been hearing this for a while now. So what? Who says it won't be 3600lbs. and 520HP? I'd wait and see what Lexus offer for the new GS and it's F version. The IS-F hits 60 in 4.5 on a good day, why would a car that weighs the same, has at least 10-20% more power hit 60 in the same amount of time? I call BS. As with these reports.

The number needs to be around 4. If it is in the 4.5-5 range, I would consider it a GS460 replacement, not a GSF. GS460s competitors are BMW550i (which does 0-60 in 4.8 with RWD and 4.6 in AWD) and Infiniti M56S which does 4.9 in RWD (AWD figure not known).
0-60 is overrated, and very inaccurate half the time. 0-60 for the CTS-V is said to be 3.9 seconds, good luck on that. Most people that get these cars who TRY to hit those numbers aren't going to, unless the car has some very grippy tires or launch control. In a bunch of comparison tests the CTS-V with 550hp is still too heavy and won't launch very well. Try looking into other publications besides R&T C&D and MT and you'll see what I mean.

And when all the cars tested are automatic, the relative performance differential is real not driver skill.
Is the GS-F gonna weigh 3,530 lbs? I read that here: http://www.motortrend.com/features/a...#ixzz0ZDkQ0tHh
I know the article is a year old, but wow. If the GS-F is rivaling against the M5, I'm sure that the specs we know now are good.
The 550i currently weighs at 4,376 (528i at 3,814), I'm sure that the M5 is going to weigh as much as 4,500 lbs. So, to have the GS-F weigh about 1,000 lbs LESS than the M5 is going to be sick.
A weight of 3,530 is already lighter than a 335i! Insane.
I know that everyone here (including myself) wants the GS-F to pull 500+ HP, but even if it stays at 464, that's plenty of power for this car. Should have a 0-60 close to 4 seconds.

we will see if it's really that light, i have my doubts but i am happy to see the weight loss. the gs460 is already 3800lb. 300lb lighter with maybe v10 or v8 (FI), that's quite something, on top of all the other add on for 4gs

I would start a thread titled "Acura's are the greatest cars ever made" if the 4GS was around 3500lbs.
That is how confident I am that it won't happen. No way in hell. Every flipping car gets bigger and gains weight. Most cars in its class are all 4,000lbs plus today.
It would cost some serious dough to make the car lose weight and consumers for these cars don't give a squat about weight. Now they do care somewhat on performance/MPG which gets better with lighter weight. However marketing/advertising "hey we are the lightest vehicle" in the luxury sport market ain't gonna sell cars.
The IS F is over 3700lbs and its way smaller.

One interesting tid-bit though. The 2011 BMW 5 uses less aluminum than the previous model (one factor which contributed to increased weight). BMW said that the M division complained that the excessive use of aluminum in the E60 posed too limiting performance constraints, and lobbied for more steel and a more rigid structure in the F10.
If Lexus even wants me to consider the GSh, it has to be at least 40mpg but that is just me though. When can we expect spy pics
I actually hope Lexus can make the GS a CLS competitor sedan-coupe and make hybrid/F variants.

lexus hybrids are mostly on performance anyway. i don't mind seeing gsh with ok mileage but more powerful
Well, I like Lexus and I'm as loyal as they get but if they don't provide, I'll have to look at other premium brands that fit what I need (Fisker?). I'm pretty much a hippie at heart and I like to think that I'm making a difference with sustainability in the environment.
