Hey everybody, I recently bought a 2016 Lexus GS 350 with about 70k miles. The car runs great and I haven't had any issues with it however I am noticing a noise when I first start the vehicle and when I drive at lower speeds. The noise goes away after exceeding a certain speed (30-35mph?) and then it won't come back until I start the vehicle again (after it has been sitting off for a while) I included a link at the top of this post so you can hear what it sounds like. I tried to search some in the forums to see if it was something normal but I wasn't sure how to word the sound so I apologize if this has been posted before.
I've heard some weird noises from the climate control, it looks like you were running it in the vid. Have you noticed a correlation?
I will have to test this when I am back in town in a couple of weeks. If I remember correctly the sound did go away when I turned it off but I want to double check when I am there.
Does it start right as you start moving? Can you hear it from outside?
Have you raised the car and spun the front and rear wheels to see if you hear anything?
Did you hear it while test driving or it started after?
It starts when I first start the vehicle and seems like it continues until I drive to a higher speed, then I don't hear it anymore. Didnt hear it while test driving, haven't lifted and looked under.
@cbgs33 - It certainly could be that the drivetrain moves enough under load to hit one of the heat shields in the transmission tunnel, causing that noise.
It sounds to me like a vibrating, muffled piece of thick aluminum (e.g. heatshield) either physically hitting against something (e.g. exhaust/muffler) or hitting against something that has internal or external rotation with significant mass (e.g. transmission or driveshaft) or just physically close enough to the drivetrain (e.g. transmission or driveshaft) that the heatshield is influenced to bounce or vibrate, making that noise.
I recommend inspecting all the heatshields to see if one is loose/damaged and/or too close to any part of the drivetrain.
Here is a video of a damaged (loose) muffler heat shield on a 2013 GS 350. You can imagine how it could make the noise you are hearing.
