I have a new to me 2016 Lexus GS 350. I'm going through it now and The first problem was with the oil change of all things! The Lexus dealer sold me the oil filter YZZA5, I pulled my filter out and thought they sold me the wrong filter. Mine had a YZZA1 in it. I went back to the dealer today and they double checked the VIN and they were 100% sure My car took a YZZA5. back home I tried the YZZA5 filter and it fit! This means my car was riding around with a YZZA1 filter in a YZZA5 housing. The YZZA1 is at least 1/2" shorter! I'm guessing the oil was bypassing the filter and it was doing nothing! Yeiks! The oil was as clean as imagionable and it was only 3K miles on the oil since the last change according to the window sticker, but who knows if this was done on the last oil change or several oil changes ago. I almost did a monkey see monkey do and put a YZZA1 in as that was what it had, who knows if other shops did this as well.
Not my picture, but it shows the difference between the two filters.
To clarify a little as owner of an 2017 GS350 AWD...... The A5 is correct as already mentioned. However, if you look at the filter itself you sometimes see printed on the actual filter the stamp YzzA2. When you buy the part number A5, it is the one that comes with the little plastic drain piece in the box. It can be bought WITHOUT the plastic drain piece too as a different part number.
From another thread on oil filters, the consensus seemed to be:
Pre facelift RWD, it's the A3/A5
Post facelift RWD, it's the A1
AWD for all years uses the A5/A3
A1 is shorter than A3.
A3 and A5 are the same except A5 has plastic plug.
A1 comes with a plastic plug, a small o ring and a large o ring (and the element of course)
As several people confirmed the A5 is the correct filter. The question is, if an A1 is installed in a A5 housing, does that mean all of the oil was bypassing the filter? I think so as it's too short.
