Any recommendations for a quality car battery for the GS? Also, I assume installation isn’t rocket science. However I’ve heard people mention something about maintaining memory settings. Umm, Is there something different about battery installation in a Lexus?

Just swap the battery as one normally would. Im pretty sure when i swapped mine out, all my settings didnt get erased off anything. But be prepared for your car to not want to idle the first time you start it back up along with it shifting weird. It has to relearn and adapt back to your driving style while it makes self adjustments as time goes on.

Nothing different about changing the battery in a Lexus or the GS, just be aware that some folks have had problems related to their infotainment system, servo motors, etc after changing the battery themselves in the 4GS. This is why some owners just end up taking it to their Lexus dealer since the prices for battery and install tend to be reasonable. Dealership would be responsible if something goes wrong.
I have never had any issues when changing my battery going the DIY route.
Also, all automotive batteries are all made at either 2-3 manufacturers and not necessarily the brand thats sticker is on it. The difference between a 1yr or 5yr battery is just the warranty, take off the label and they are identically the same and the price only reflects its warranty coverage. Some will have a higher CA and CCA, but this is just from the battery actually being larger and able to produce more amp output. Just FYI, because i didnt know this for the longest time.
Hope it works out for you. Hope you don't get some high school dropout that's high on drugs Costco just hired to replace your battery.
The Lexus branded replacement battery that Lexus dealers install comes with them taking responsibility for fixing anything that fails to work (e.g. NAV, HVAC, Electric emergency brake, engine stumble, etc.) after replacing the battery.
There have been more than you can imagine that needed to have their car towed to the dealership and/or pay a diagnostic fee after a third-party or DIY battery replacement.
got one from costco last month, they are only selling not installing.
sparks can fry sensors and ecu's and it is costly. maybe get a power saver, maybe it helps by keeping power in the system. I didnt use it.
For myself I have a routine on how to change them. To minimize problems is to minimize sparking.
1) the first one to be removed is the ground (- sign) at the end of installation the last one to be connected is also the ground (-)
thats per manuals and all the instructions and google. one extra reason for me for that is : if some sparks occur they can be absorbed by the body of the vehicle. don't spark the +.
2) to minimize the sparks that can damage the system grab terminals firmly when you pull them out/put them on, not with shaky hands from being afraid of 12 volt electricity. like dont keep sparking it for more than necessary just put it on normally.
also this is not a full guide/ I dont have resposability, if uncomforatble get it changed professionally. also it was more difficult to change than like a camry lets say. it has a sleeve for the battery that barely fits/doesnt fit over costco battery. its not a exact fit.
If you can lift 15-20 lbs and know how a wrench works with a couple nuts (righty tighty/lefty loosy), its no big deal. Im surprised people are that concerned about frying their whole electrical system, seems like the service department sales pitch worked on some of you 🤣. Just disconnect the negative terminal first, after the new battery is installed connect the positive cable first. Thats what the lexus technician told me when he installed mine.... Just Kidding, it was the lube guy 👀.. just kidding again. Just some 10mm nuts and Bam!! Your done, just know that your car will start and want to die for a couple 20-30 seconds as its relearning its perimeters. Not a big deal and you can do it 👍🏻
I like using a memory saver but most importantly, turn off the car and WAIT about 10-15 minutes before disconnecting the battery. Then, once reinstalled, WAIT another 10-15 minutes before engaging the on button or starting the vehicle. This allows the vehicle systems to properly shut down and then restart.
Most important is you cut everything off before you pull the battery. I have disconnected and reconnected about 10+ times or more now without a memory saver. Never had a problem.
Honestly, the hardest part for me was the stupid cable retainer for the positive cable. Took me like 20 mins to get it off after lots of prying with a screwdriver. The rest is easy.
