Default DRL working but not the lightbulb

Hello all,

I noticed that my main left lightbulb went out on my 2013 Lexus gs350 F-sport and I wanted to replace it. When I went in to remove the lightbulb, the bulb itself was broken. I found it odd since I had just replaced the bulb in February. Mind you, I live in Texas so it can get hot. Maybe that's the reason? IDK. I checked for any broken glass within the headlamp and I didn't see or feel anything. When I purchased the bulbs in Feb, they came in a pair. I used one of the bulbs in February so i figured I'd just use the other one that I had left over to swap it today. The DRL's (Daytime Running Lights) are working fine but not the light bulb itself. I noticed that it would flicker slightly for a teeny tiny fraction of a second at a very dim level and then it would stay off when I started the car or turned the lights on. The DRL's continued to work as normal. I removed the lightbulb and inspected it to make sure it was good and there were no scratches nor was it blown. It looked fine.

Anyone have any idea to what may be the reason for the bulb not working? I have done some research and I think that It may be the ballast? Could it also possibly be the fuse?

Please correct me if I am wrong or if you have any recommendations.

Thank you,
Vanni out

So your right one is working? Have you tried swapping sides to see if the problem follows?

My right one is working. I have not tried swapping sides. I am afraid that if I do, I will somehow mess up my only working lightbulb and then I won't be able to drive to/from home at night. I know it's still illegal but one bulb is better than no bulb lol.

Here's my guess. When the 1st one went out the 2nd one usually is not far away from going out next also. Sounds like the replacement bulbs were cheap. The flicker is a sign of a bad bulb. I think you just need 2 good quality New bulbs is all. I would not put those same cheap bulbs back in there as a replacement. Even thought you think that 2nd spare bulb should be good, my guess is that it's not. In other words replace both bulbs with some new better quality ones.
