Post Where do your wipers sit?

Hey guys,

Random question but on this modern car I would have thought the wipers would be hidden on the glass under the top lip of the bonnet, however my wipers are very much sitting on the viewable portion of the glass. My previous Toyota crown had the 'hidden' wipers. Is everyone's like this, or maybe my wipers were misaligned on the spindle?

Your wipers are probably in winter mode. You can click them back to normal mode.

@FullMetalM - There is no snow is in your near term weather forecast for New South Wales, but when it comes you'll know how to position your wipers, right?

Also had no idea this was a thing, my GS was apparently in that mode when I bought it. I unbolted them and placed them lower myself lol

Yeah so I gave it a go today but they were already in the normal mode. I put them in snow mode to check.

So I guess like hotct says, they are just really high sitting. I might do what you have done and unbolt them to change the position on the spindle.

Do a search and you'll find there are marks in the windshield used for aligning the wipers so they're in the correct place.

I've never seen alignment marks in the windshield on any Lexus or Toyota.

Here’s a prior thread where this was discussed. See reply #16 for info from the manual re: ceramic dots for alignment purposes.

It’s about the lamest ‘feature’ I’ve ever heard of.

Its a feature relative to the cold weather package because it raises the wipers to the the lowest part of the windshield, under which there is a heating element to melt snow and ice from the blades as one warms up the car.

it’s a design consideration inasmuch as when lowered, the wipers are not visible (addressing the OP’s complaint), but they’re also too far below the edge of the hood to allow for the blades to be lifted to change them, which shifting them to winter mode addresses.

When they’re in the down position they don’t swipe the windshield far enough on the driver’s side. Ridiculous.
