My 2008 GS 350 developed a error, "S/T not unlocked", which we figured to be the steering lock preventing the car from starting, but would give permissive to start after several taps on the lock (perhaps it's jammed or something)

I got another lock (used). The car shows no errors anymore, but refuses to crank.

I would like to know if the replacement lock needs to be programmed to work on the car or if it is just faulty. I will appreciate all the help I can get.
