Default Choice between 2008 GS460 & 2010

Hello, long time lurker and I’ve built up the courage to sign up and post as I want to become apart of this club! Stumbled upon the GS460 and the rarity, power, sportiness yet luxurious has me hooked!

In a bit of a dilemma, I am in Canada and I recently seen a privately owned 2008 127k km (<79k miles) and a 2010 103k km (64k miles) up for sale. 2008 $15900 cad ($13164 usd) 2010 $17988 cad ($14898 usd). Test drove the 2008, and I am in awe, the 2010 tan interior is a turn off for me and I can’t test drive it as it’s in Another province/state. Would any of you jump on these? Is bringing it to Lexus for an inspection overkill? Appreciate the advice, would love to join the Lexus club!

I’m with you on that! Pretty much the KBB price. There is a dealer that has a 08 with way higher mileage and they want almost $18k before taxes!! I know they are rare but damn, seems like very reasonable offers in the US. I think a pin point inspection will really settle ease my mind.

The used car market is on fire right now, the price are up. If you have the patience I would hold off until the prices cool down or a good offer pops up. These prices you are telling me, are for 13-up 4GS which I would take before a 3GS.

Man! I love the honest level headed mindset in this forum. What do you think is a fair price for the mileage & condition of the 08 ?

If you like the 08, go for it! The differences between the 08 and 10 are pretty minor, and mostly involve tech, like a USB charging port. What kind of options does each have? Make sure you read up on the brake actuator issue in the 460s- it can be an expensive fix. In the US, you can look up your VIN on the Lexus Drivers site, and pull any Lexus service history that the car has. Not sure if you are able to in Canada tho. Can the private owner provide good service records? Pre-purchase inspections are always a good idea, but it doesn't have to be at Lexus. I have a 2010 460, and am very happy with my purchase. Love the sound of that v8! Its a bummer that Lexus didn't keep making them after 2011, or I'd think about getting a newer one.

well the color options are different (not a fan of the tan interior on the 2010) but the 2010 has keyless start, updated Bluetooth for that model year, and that’s about it. Those aren’t deal breakers for me and the added expense in shipping it to Toronto without a test drive doesn’t sit well with me. If I brought it to Lexus for PPI would they be able to tell me the approximate life of the break actuator? Or is it a inevitable problem and to just have the cash on hand for when it eventually goes? I will check out your 460!

I had a 2010.

Rattles aren’t an issue anymore that plagued earlier GSs and didn’t need all those recalls to be done.

It had Bluetooth streaming for music. Earlier models only could do phone calls.

The brake actuator issue isn't necessarily inevitable, but it is pretty common. Allegedly it happens more often in warmer climates for whatever reason tho, so you might not have to worry about it as much. Definitely an expensive fix if it does happen tho.

Did not known this was linked to warmer climates!

I bought my first 460 with 70k miles on the clock for 13k (USD) from a dealership, and my second 460 from a private seller with 128k for 9k. The used market is crazy high right now, so there's not much you can do about the high prices other than negotiate. As for which one to pick, thats easy.

Due to their rarity it can be difficult to find one with the exterior AND interior color you want, so my answer would be whichever color you like more, I have a tan interior and a black interior and I can't stand the tan.

Okay I’m glad I’m not alone on the tan interior haha! Yeah the fact that the ad is still up is telling me the price is just a tad too high/a lot people don’t know about the gs460 (or don’t care)/waiting for me to pull the trigger!

Well I caved! I am absolutely in love! First time experiencing something like this. Every time I start up the engine I smile. I shall cherish this rare car for as long as I can keep it! Thank you to the amazing collective that is Club Lexus!

The 2008, honestly I thought I’d never see it again after my first test drive, but thankfully the owner wasn’t in a rush to sell and knocked down the price for me. Sold my 2010 Honda Accord and picked up the GS. Should I create a new thread with pics as an official CL member?
