GS350 has no reverse or neutral, car creeps forward when N or R are selected. 105K miles, Previous owner took to Lexus dealer who didnt diagnose anything and only told him that the transmission needed complete replacement. The shift linkage bushings appear OK, doesnt look like there is any adjustment to it. When moving the shifter, it almost feels like it is a linkage issue, tho. If I move the shifter really slowly from R to P, I can hear the Park pawl clicking as the trans comes out of foward to Park. I've changed the fluid twice (which was nearly black) and no change.
Any help is appreciated
Jim
If im not mistaken there is a mechanical lever on the right side of the transmission thats connected to the shifter. Have you examined that to see if the bolts are tight and that the electrical plug on it is clean and no damage to the wiring? If not I would double check all of that. It maybe best to take the car to a transmission shop that can properly diagnose it. It could be just a wiring issue or a faulty sensor or solenoid.
+1 on the transmission shop. I really place bets on a silly transmission control linkage problem. When the transmission goes out, most of the time, it shows with the RPM suddenly raising before shifting or not going forward anymore. I don't know if a mechanism related to this can break inside the transmission but I've never come across anything like this.
A good scan tool more likely can tell what the ecu is reading, and also you should be able to preform test functions on solenoids inside the transmission with the click tests. Any good mechanic should be able to properly diagnose it if you cant find a good reliable transmission shop thats not out to rob you. Sadly many will suggest a transmission rebuild, thats where they make their profit. I would avoid trying to drive it, so you dont do more damage.
It could be a bad transmission module, if thats the case its located inside the ecu. There are electronic shops who can repair them for around $110
I just bought the car this week, but I highly doubt it has been serviced. I looked at the Lexus site and original owner was two owners ago and didnt look like the car was serviced at the dealer regularly. I have an appointment at the transmission shop next Wed. I will report back the findings.
Having only 105k miles I highly doubt the transmission is bad, these transmission are over built. I have also never heard of your issue, so this is not a common problem. I am still confident it is an electrical issue possibly caused by moisture, rat chewing wires, etc
Sometimes the car will also try to move when in Park. Transmission shop has inspected it. Solenoid C has failed, but shop thinks hard parts deep inside have seized causing the creeping forward in N & R and intermittent forward movement in Park. So no true answer for the issues since I'm not having them completely tear it down.
I've decided to have them replace the transmission with a used one.

Good idea! As the used ones are pretty cheap on www.car-part.com Im seeing used transmissions in your area asking $250-650
Off-topic for this forum, but once I have the GS back, I'll be selling my '98 LS400, hope to ask $3000 for it. 238K miles, runs & drives great. Selling because will need the GS AWD to get to daughter's new home in the winter.
