PO-40 folding mirror module and dash issues

Hello,

Six months ago I purchased a 2010 GS 450h with some 37,000 miles.

With Covid I haven’t had the opportunity to drive it much but in the few hundred miles I have two things are driving me nuts.

1) The external mirrors don’t swing in unless I manually switch them to so I can’t confirm the car is locked at a distance.

2) Creaks and rattles from the dash around the speaker and center console.

My extended Lexus warranty doesn’t appear to cover this so I might try to remove the speaker cover and add some new sound deadening material.

I’ve read about a PO-40 module for the mirrors but am not sure if I need one or two and can’t find any instruction details for their installation. The company in Thailand who makes them doesn’t appear to reply to e-mails and an Australian guy who was selling them seems to have gone, perhaps due to illness.

Does any one know where these can be purchased or have one spare that they haven’t installed? A guy So_CAL on here discussed them in the past but as I’m a new member I don’t seem to be able to message him as yet.

I’d appreciate any assistance.

Thanks to all...

the US version of these cars don't have auto folding mirrors- they only work manually.

Hi,

Yes It’s manual fold. I want to make it automatic like the 4th generation.

There is a aftermarket item called a PO-40 module which when wired in will allow the mirrors to fold with the
remote or when locking/unlocking the car.

Another member SOCAL-450 has discussed these modules here...

cheers.

I use the beep or the flashing lights to verify that the car is locked, when leaving. I never knew there was an aftermarket module to auto close the mirror. But me personally I avoid folding the mirrors often, as the gears in our mirrors are hard plastic, and after time they will wear out, the same for the auto tilt many of us shut that off.

For the creaks and rattles I would first make sure your tires and wheels are running true and straight. Maybe your tires are flat spotted from sitting so long, or are running the old hard oem run flats. A visit to a good tire shop have them balance all 4 tires, while inspect yourself the inside/outside barrel of wheels while it is spinning on the balancer to verify the wheels are not bent. Often shops will mask bent wheels with a lot of wheels weights. If your car still has the oem 10 or maybe 11 year old tires maybe its time to get a fresh set smooth running tires.

I also had the habit of checking whether the car is locked by looking at the mirrors with my Volvo, on which they folded automatically when locking the car, but I got used to always fold the mirrors with the button before exiting and lock the car with the handle button so I know for a fact that the car is locked. I would still however like the mirrors to fold when locking the car too, at least for the sake of convenience when parking on narrow streets and parking spots (which are frequent in Montreal).

Regarding creaks and rattles, I still have some, despite having no vibrations due to the drivetrain, also from the driver dashboard speaker or A-pillar and the touchscreen. That said, they rarely come up, and I fixed the most annoying one so I'm letting them alone. But there is a video about known noise sources on the 3GS among which speakers, if it is of any use:
