Default Lexus GS460 Diff

Hi,

my Diff is broken. While im drive i have a rattle at the rear between 110 to 140 kmH.
I change the brakes the wheels and tires and also the wheel bearings on both sides.
Therefor i think the Diff is broken.

So before i buy another used Diff and have the same **** again. Cause a brand new one cost 2500€.

I think about to buy a new Tuning Diff Pinion and Ring.

What you think about? Do you know a good Japanese Tuning company that have those Diff Pinion and Ring?

Do you know a software to read the true miles from the car?

Thanks for your help.

Denis

Remove the drain plug and see if there is lots of metal shavings on the magnetic part and also in fluid. Make sure to remove the fill plug first to ensure you can put fluid back in.

Never heard of anyone breaking an diff. Are you drag racing the car with slicks? I bet you more likely your guibo on your driveshaft may have gone bad and just made it feel like the diff is bad.

Raise the car in the air, inspect your drive shaft, grab and shake it see if theres any play. If nothing is visible, do as raze suggested drain the fluid inspect the fluid coming out, you can also go a step further and remove the diff cover and inspect the LSD.

But I wouldn't jump to conclusion and start ordering parts unless youre sure those parts are bad.

Before you decide it is definitely the diff, please check your cats. They might be shot!
When stationary, and you rev the car, do you hear this noise as well?

In the process to change the bearings i checked the driveshafts to. But they was nice and moved easy. I don't do deag or something. But i can't say what the pre owner did with this car. I would open today the Diff and inspect the LSD.

When the car is lifted and the tires in the Air. And i rotate the rear Tires. I can hear that is somthing scratch in the Diff. i know that's normal. But. The scratching isn't continued it stocks in one position and ok after . When you rotate it comes again. Like this rattle. This rattle is so extremely that shakes the car. But when i drive faster to 150-180 up from 180 is the shaking and rattle back again.

Thank you but the kats is ok. The car shakes and rattles from the near off the Diff. A little bit more to the right side but in the middle of the rear.

What about the rubber bushings on the diff and on the driveshaft carrier bearings did you inspect those aswell? If anything in the diff were to go bad that would cause a vibration I think it would be thrust bearing there behind where the axle attaches to the diff. Sometimes you can see if theres play by shaking that hard enough.

If you have a gopro camera I would mount it near and facing the diff and driveshaft and video record it happening. May help you pinpoint exactly from where it is coming from.

I looked online, and your diff ring and pinion gearing inside is the same as ls460/isf (GS350 is different)

the LSD gs350/is350/ls460

If you wanted to play with gearing ratio's you can use ring and pinion off of other cars whether you want to go taller or shorter.

Hi

i inspected yesterday at all. I open also the Diff and the drive shafts. By the drive shafts are the fat in the booths like liquid. I wash them and add new fat. Also i add the SP Bushings.Tomorrow i install the new Diff and we would see what happens. Cross the fingers.

Now drives like new one. I take an used LS460 Diff. I dont know what happens with the old one. Maybe the user before made to often burnouts? btw i hate burnouts and cant see any productive in doin this! Also people who do this and told about the car where finest in the world.

The old one sounds like sanded i dont know why?

So you used a used LS460 differential? exact match? Just want to confirm for the rest of GS460 owners for future reference.
