Ya, I would suspect the contact cleaner in the wires aswell. Also check the seals on the connectors at times when you remove plugs they unseat themselves. Also I would test the alternator output with a voltmeter just to verify the alternator is pumping over 13 volts while running at idle.

Thanks ibidu1, I will go through this checklist and get back with you in a few days. If you (or anybody) think of anything else to check let me know, I will try anything once.

Update for everyone:

My problem was caused by a loose wire to a pigtail, I found a wiring harness and when I tugged at the 2 wires coming out of the harness, one came out very easily. After a temporary repair, the check engine light went away and the car is functioning perfectly once again. I plan on getting a new harness and splicing it into position and that will solve my problem. Thanks for the tips Ibidu1.

I'm glad you figured it out and got it sorted. Ya, its not good to tug on wire to unplug harness. But good news its easily fixable, just slide the metal back into the terminal connection and make sure it locks into place. You do not need to replace the wire harness if just a wire pop out. If the metal is damaged and you are not able to fix it, they do sell just the metal pins and you can snip the old wire and crimp on the new metal pin.
