How do you aim these after market headlight projectors?
Hi, I’ve had these aftermarket headlights with the factory bulbs and ballasts for 3 years now. One of my bulbs was shutting off after a few minutes so I ordered some aftermarket 8000k bulbs because the factory’s were so dim.
The new bulbs color temp changed because of the lumen and I would say the brightness of the projector got brighter but my headlights are aimed so far down I can’t really see great at night and or the projectors just might be cheap in general.
i struggled just to get to the bulbs in and I did it all by feel, touch and squeeze my hand in there barley because they have the headlight HID bulb so far stuffed in the corner it’s almost impossible to change.
i found a picture of the back of the headlights that show 2 round gears and a screw in the middle (In the pictures they are on the top of the round grey plastic) I could only get to the one closer to the grill on both sides (Can’t get to the other side because of the fender rails & rad support) and I turned the screw with nothing happening.
Any one know how to aim these light or what I should do?
My cutoff line is even with almost the top of my grill in the middle. I’m assuming it should be much higher.
See the top 2 silver adjusters and the plastic **** all three are the adjustments for the main beams. The tops will either go up and down and side to side. the **** will go either in or out if I remember correctly. You will want to do the adjustment at night and while keeping an eye on the projector to see which direction it is going and check on your wall to make sure the direction is where you want it to go to.

Yeah the 2 silver gears with the screws in the middle. The one closer to the grill of the car I twisted the screw with a Phillips head and nothing happens. The inner one near the fender is impossible to get to. And the plastic ****, I don’t see one, that white one is a bulb socket.

I just pulled out a damaged old headlight assembly I had lying around. The adjustments for the main beams are the 2 silver ones with the phillips, that are on top. The bottom is fixed, and there is no adjustment. Theres a top and bottom adjuster screws on the day light running lights.
If youre trying to raise the main headlights beams. Then you have to rotate the top two screws behind the main beams in a clockwise. If I remember correctly I had to remove some of the screws on the inner fender well to get access to them. In your case I think you were moving the daylight running lights adjustment.

I might of worded it wrong but I believe that’s one of the ones I did with nothing happening. In the first picture I twisted the right one over the big round plastic cover that shields the low beam.
You need to adjust that other screw because if you screw one side it will only turn the headlight left (if adjusting passenger headlight), as the bottom is fixed meaning non adjustable. Its a triangle and only the top 2 are adjustable, bottom is fixed.
So if you tighten one it will steer the light to that direction, if you tighten both it will raise the headlight, if you loosen both it will lower the headlight. You need to access that second adjuster bolt, its not difficult but its very tight. You will need to undo a couple of screws off the inner plastic fender liner. Grab a long extension and socket or even a long phillips screw driver. With a flash light you should be able to see the second adjuster, put your screw driver and adjust it as need be, until you reach the height that you want.
Thanks for the advice ibidu1, I think you’ve chimed in and answered all of my threads in the 3GS forum. I had a 2GS and there are way more owners and modders in that forum.
i’m going to figure out how to take the liner off. So I’m going to turn the philips head screw to the right on both sides to raise the cutoff level like you explained. I hope I don’t strip that screw because I barley used any force and it looked like it was stripping.

Youre welcome! Yup theres more interest in 2gs then 3gs, 2gs were just more popular and were very well built stout cars.
Like I told you just unbolt several screws from the fender liner, theres no need to remove the wheel. Just grab a 10mm with a long extension and undo the front and maybe mid area and theres one under the far edge of the bumper. Undo just enough to get your hand to slide in there and just go to town with the adjustment. I was in the same boat as you, but I only replaced 1 headlight with an aftermarket (I truly regret it) and the beams were so low, so I had to match them up to the other side. It took a lot of adjustment, but it didnt take a lot of time, just take your time and be gentle every turn you should be fine.

Hey ibidu1, I wasn’t able to get to these lights till today/tonight. I bought a off-set ratcheting screw driver for the top screws, that your able to get to threw the engine bay on the top near the fender rail.
I was able to open up the wheel well covers to get to the other hidden screw also on the top. I tried turning both at the same time with nothing really happening. I then focused on trying to turn just the ones on the top in the engine bay, now that I had the tool and more room to get to it, and it kinda looked like it raised them.
Are you sure both screws are meant to be turned at the same time? I can’t seem to see the main beam on the garage door on the drivers side like I could see the one on the passenger side.
I have the car on jack stands right now (one click up) facing the garage till I make sure I get this right.
If your able to reply or anybody else with these lights, let me know what you’ve done exactly to aim these correct. Does the screw need to be turned exactly at the same time like perfect?
Here is the current beam with the car on jack stands.
Look inside the headlight at the projector lens, you should be able to see the projector lens move as you turn the screws. The 3 screws make up a triangle. So if you tighten both top screws that will raise up the lens, and loosen the bottom that will raise your aim as high as possible. If you tighten the lower, and loosen the top two then your aim will be lower.

See I’m lost on the lower screw where is that?
On the pictures I posted I don’t see anything under that plastic cover that would complete a triangle unless your talking about that **** looking thing unless that’s a bulb for something else, idk. Can you post a picture?
Also on my third picture, you can see there’s a U/D on the right screw I’m assuming for up down. You can’t see the other side though.
So I need to turn both upper screws, the ones with the silver looking washers both to the right, at the same time to raise the headlight as much as possible. And go to the right on both the Driver and Passenger side?
Do you think we both have the the same manufacturer, company? I’m wondering if my right screw is for up down and the left is for left right.
i was doing this by myself, and I have a hand at the bottom by the wheel well and I’m stretching to the top of the engine bay, and wasn’t able to see the headlight from the front when turning, started in the day time and waited for night to aim, it did come up but not a large amount. I also don’t know a perfect height from the floor to a section of the garage plus I’m on jack stands.

I have a spare damaged headlight I just looked at. Its been awhile since I last adjusted my headlight, sorry I gave you wrong info on that lower triangle its not adjustable its got a motor for the swivel attached to it. Your adjustment screws will be the top two.
You dont have to turn both that the same time, but if you want them to move equally up or down. If you turn one side more then the other then it will turn the beam left or right.

Yeah I kinda figured one went left to right and the other raised up. The driver side can continue going up higher then the passenger side and the passenger side stopped after some turns. I tried to figure out the best left to right with the beam, but again the driver side beam is weird and kinda yellow even though it’s the same bulb, like its not a perfect round beam.
I hope I did enough raising because it sucks to always turn on your brights to see and I’m a huge HID guy since the invention of them, and these have to be the worst I’ve had so far.
Here is is a picture of the front I took if you can see anything from the quality of the pic.
So I’m resurrecting my old thread. I had another bulb go out and this time I bought Osram Cool Blue HID bulbs which get some good reviews.
My low beam projector lights still seam to be aimed to low not even illuminating a license plate.
I tried turning the 2 screws on each side of the low beam projectors rear housing with a Phillips screw driver & even tried turning them together but I haven’t had any luck.
Anyone recently aim these lights to tell
me exactly what does what on each assembly, does one do Horizontal and one do Vertical, which way do I turn etc?
I’ve had horrible light output for about 5 years now and I need to tackle this.
