Default New Tire Recommendations

Hello all.. Resurrecting tire thread. Sorry for the redundancy on an old thread.
I have Michelins Pilot Sport A/S 3+ on my GS350 now. I bought these new about 10,000 miles back and now have at least one (or two) bad tires that cause the car to drift.
I've had suspension checked and alignment done (today). That said, I never really liked these tires and its a blessing that they went bad so I can replace them.
The ride was stiff and unforgiving on rough roads, mileage was slightly worse than the original "cheap" tires the were on the car. Also handling around tight corners were less than expected. I would not recommend these tires for this particular GS, perhaps they are a better fit for others.
I'm thinking of going to the Pirelli's.. Ant input on these from actual owners that may have migrated from Michelins? Or recommend other brand(s) that work well on the GS?

Thanks much..

I was in the same boat as you a year back. I was running on the Dunlop 5000 run flats on my 2009 GS350 AWD and 1 of them got punctured by a piece of metal and was kinda big and so unrepairable. Read somewhere not to replace just 1 tire on AWD cars so decided to go with 2 but 2 run flats were about $600 so there arose the dilemma, replace 2 run flats or replace all 4 with regular non run flat all season tires for the same price.
Went with the latter. Reading all the reviews here and on other websites, I decided to go with the Continental Extreme Contact DWS. Very quiet and smooth ride but hated cornering and just the whole feel. Felt like I was back in my ES vs the GS.
Did some more research and exchanged the Continentals with Pirelli P Zero All Seasons. Still very quiet and a smooth ride but little better in cornering. But maybe it's just me but I miss the Dunlop Run flats. I know they were loud and harsh but at the same time so much fun to drive. I am in Chicago so needed something with better snow traction and although the Pirelli's are decent I just don't feel comfortable really pushing them. The Dunlops, I would drive like a maniac in the snow and always felt safe and in control. I guess there is a reason why Lexus chose them as OEM tires.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies..
Interesting to consider changing tire size. I have a comment on this. The factory size (correct me if I'm wrong) is 225/50 R17. This is the current size of my Michelins.. HOWEVER, since I went with the Michelins in this size my speedometer is off my 3 to 4 MPH according to my GPS. So, actual speed on my GPS at 55 equates to approx. 58 to 59 on my car speedo. Any thoughts on this? Has anyone experienced the same calibration issue? What could cause this if I'm using factory recommended size tire?

I have the a/s 3+ on my rwd gs350 (18 inch oem) and the ride quality is beyond harsh even on good pavement. Interestingly enough, I had the a/s tires on previously and they road much nicer. The newest a/s 3+ tire is much harder for what ever reason.

I would love recommendations for a softer tire that fits oem 18 inch.

Agreed.. Beyond harsh.. I think running these tires long term would have an affect on the life of the suspension/Struts.
I've read some good reviews on the new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.. Anyone have experience with these tires?

I have been enjoying the Continental extremecontact sports. Might not be the best for any areas that have real winters.

Had A/S Plus. When it came time to replace them, went with A/S 3 and absolutely HATED them. Harsh loud unforgiving ride. Ruined the ride of my car. Replaced them within 1 week with a set of NOS A/S Plus. Put 65k miles on them and when it came time to replace them I went with the DWS 06. These are fantastic tires. Yes, they are a little soft in the corners but the ride quality is outstanding, noise is low, and has MPG is up. And they handle great in the snow to boot. Highly recommended.

I didn't know the A/S 4 was out. Maybe Michelin softened the ride a bit.

I have had multiple sets of Michelins on my car and the A/S 3+ are the worst. Very loud after about 15,000 miles. Hard as a rock too. I guess that may go hand in hand.

Default New Tire Recommendations

Now I have 32,000 miles on the Michelins. I tried to like them when new and now I like them even less. I beleive these tires prematurley worn my struts and suspension because it appears now I need struts whereas prior to the
Its time to shop for new tires and looks like the AWS 06 is favored tire for our GS AWD.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks..
