It looks like the subwoofer on my GS460 is going out. I noticed this week that the overall sound had gone down and after careful inspection the culprit appears to be the subwoofer. The odd thing is that sometimes it works, and then it just stops. From reading, it appears my only options are buy a brand new ML Sub, get a used one or get an aftermarket sub, along with an aftermarket amp and whatever else is necessary. What about buying the ML speaker repair kit on ebay? Has anyone gone that route? I dont feel like paying over $300 for an ML sub considering many aftermarket units provide more bang for your buck. I want to stay with the OEM setup, so I will probably order the ML repair kit and replace the speaker foam. If anyone else has any better options, I'm all ears.
It has great sound, it fits perfectly in the trunk and doesn't take up a lot of space. The amp is built in, it sounds very nice. It's not ported so I feel it has a cleaner sound. It also has a control **** that I had mounted in the little coin drawer under your mirror controls. It fits perfect.
I love the way it sounds and I can adjust it or turn it all the way down when I am listening to talk radio. The stereo shop charged me $200 to install it all. Tapped right into the factory amp. I also have the bass on the head unit turned all the way down.
Replacing the speaker foam CAN or MIGHT NOT help you in any way.
Your amp going in and out means that something is shorting it under load.
I would begin my ventures by taking the sub out, checking the foam surround for it to see if the foam has broken apart before you start buying stuff for repair.
I would then take a multimeter, put it on ohm setting, and check the ohm load (it should be between 2ohm to 8 ohms, please cross reference somewhere online, as i am not certain what ohm load it should be). If you get a reading other than what it should be, you pretty much have a blown subwoofer. No foam kit in the world will help you repair that. You'll need a recone kit rather than a refoam kit (they're two different things).
Oh my, I've had this exact issue before. Could be anything from what GoKoU listed as shorts in the amp, but in my opinion, I will guess your sub is fine since it 'ins-and-outs' still, and you probably have an issue with your amp/wiring. I've ran into this issue far too many times, but it's better if you take a photo of your wiring going into your amp and if you have an adjuster to check the wiring on that for wear. With your case, the best case, the wiring could have moved over time from vibrations and caused a loose connection which makes the sub in-and-out (which makes it easy to fix). That's my first guess, but a second possibility could be that the wiring on the power adjuster going to your amp is worn down which also causes the amp to irregularly run in-and-out of play. Best to take pictures of amp wiring to see if the solution is possibly visible from there.
I have a 2016 IS 200T. I’ve had a subwoofer for awhile, 12”
it was working well for few months but then went out. I had to replace it with an eyed one, and I’ve had nothing but issues since. It seems like the sun draws too much power from the battery and it causes issues. Battery kept dying, I’d have to get jump started. I couldn’t use my interior lights because it “used too much power”
i replaced the battery, brand new from “Lexus” dealership. Same issue over and over. I have decided to just disconnect the power cord from my battery and tape it off. Since then i have no issues. I don’t know what the problem is. I’ve taken it to the shop where i got my subs installed and the Lexus dealerships and they don’t know what the issue is. They say nothing is wrong.
This is probably very important… I’m not sure if this has happened to anybody else.
when i had my sub connected and was using it. 7/10 times i would park my car and shut it off to get out, it’s like my sub would surge. Seemed like it drew a bunch of power from the battery and it was really loud. It made my base go from 0-100 even though i turned the car off. It wouldn’t stop until i turned the **** for the sun all the way off. If anyone can help me out, or has experienced this same thing I’d love to hear from you. I’ve had to take off my tuner, sub, interior (custom) lights, etc. the car is amazing but when i plug the sub in, it messes things up.
I bought a 2008 GS460 with a blown ML sub. I bought the Goldwood 10" 8ohm and just dropped it in. Been working great for over a year now.
Was shorting out the entire system. I soldered on the old connectors and transferred over the rubber gasket ring. Then I just dropped it in. Easy as that. Bumps.
