yeah, i'm **** about getting the latest version of the cable. It was the only one i could find on ebay at least that had a cable running 2.0.4. Mine's advertised to be able to pair new smart keys.

Was a waste of money since I might be getting rid of the car soon anyway haha.

Forgive a potentially stupid question here, but I'm intrigued.....the software that comes with the cable is a knockoff of Techstream? or do you need to also source the Toyota proprietary software?

It's a modded techstream software that allows it to work. It's what the dealer uses but with some mods to let it work "offline".

ok, so the cliffs notes version- win7& up + cable (highest version, highest firmware), and should be all one needs, since the cable comes with the software, correct?

also, any specific options for the hardware that have more functionality, like ecm flash & programming fobs, etc?

Depending on where you get the cable, it may or may not come with the actual software. It could be the drivers. A quick search around some of the Toyota\Lexus forums can point you in the right direction.

This is the one i picked up:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Mi...AAAOSwopRYZIra

The more expensive dongles have more features it seems. The seller provided the software via download and in CD form with the cable.

yours is the newest version and it works with 64bit OS, the cheaper ones only work with xp/windows 7 32bit version only (firmware is 1.0.4 i think)

Mine just came in. Firmware 1.4.1 running on win10 64bit.
This is the one I ordered, http://www.obdii365.com/wholesale/mi...oyota-tis.html. I only needed to turn off the DRLs.

Wowzer. I found some code stored for the ABS, low or high power supply voltage and a malfunctioning humidity sensor circuit

Edit - I've played with the cable a bit more. Looks like I have the ability to register new TPMS! I'll have to wait until my new sensors come in.

While I was looking in eBay, I got the feeling this is actually pirated software, not the real Techstream, which would likely cost substantially more. Am I on the right track?

Awesome! It's pretty neat what you can find. It showed me my transmission codes before they popped up as actual MILs. Included freeze frame data too.

It actually made me wonder why it didn't throw a CEL or a BRAKE warning light.
