Default Installing Dash Cam

I'd like to install a dash-cam (
Amazon Amazon
) and connect it to the fuse box. Camera would be mounted on the windshield behind the rear view mirror, cord would tuck in under the headline to the driver's side "A" pillar and....here's my problem. The cord would have to tuck in between the interior A pillar (where the air bag is) before working its way down to the IP and driver's side fuse box.

I haven't bought the dash cam unit because I fear setting off (or damaging) the air bag trying to tuck the cord between the airbag & car frame. Has anyone done this before or have suggestions on if its possible w/o damaging/setting off the air bag?

I'm not a DIYer but have seen a few video tutorials and it doesn't seem difficult. Its just that the tutorials didn't have an airbag to contend with. TIA

I pretty certain you can tap 12v from the mirror and have it run to the camera (Similar to hard wiring a radar detector).

If you want to use the 12v cigarette adapter, I don't think it would be an issue to tuck the cable between that and the windshield. I usually use a credit card to push the cable between the headliner/windshield. I've done it on other cars without any issue.

I've run mine down the a-pillar but behind the curtain airbags. I've done it on my GS and IS.

There is plenty of room to route the cable down the A pillar and around the edge of the dash to the fuse box.

Pic's of the front/rear camera install in my GS can be found here http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/for...-lexus/?page=1

I ran an extension from my 12V outlet to the glove box.
From there I ran the wire just underneath the weather stripping up the A-pillar.
Airbags deploy with so much force, I wouldn't even worry about it obstructing the airbag.

Exactly what I did with my radar detector and dash cam. It is easy to get everything apart and back up. It will take some adjusting to get your auto wipers to stop going off randomly since your sensor is right there but it was fairly easy and much less hassle than running all the way down and around.

I use the BlackVue camera system with front and rear cameras. It has parking mode for motion detection and impact detection. I use an external 12V battery pack for parking mode which was designed for such cameras. The battery pack recharges itself while the car is running. Wiring was easy, I didn’t have to remove any panels to hide the wires along the a-pillar. Use can use a pry-tool or hide-a-way tool to help tuck the wires behind the panels.
