Making the GS350 quieter-Please weight in!

I'm about to install this part that isolates the high pressure fuel pump with a plastic cover that is lined with foam to reduce the engine ticking noise (that sounds like you have a bad valve adjustment, but is a perfectly normal symptom of the high pressure device).

**** as I am - I've spent several hours pulling door panels and the entire rear seat and deck lid to get rid of rattles. Most of the noise comes from plastic, and leather surfaces that aren't isolated and can rub against each other like where the door panel top piece (vinyl/foam) meets the door panel (leather) piece. I've used hot glue, dynamat, foam tape, and grease to isolate all the mating surfaces, and also the center area where the stereo meets the top vents I put grease there because of a high pitched ticking noise over bumps. Also force some automotive carpet or felt between the windshield and the dash to prevent the dash (that contracts and expands in hot/cold) from being able to bounce up and down so much over bumps (helped a lot). My car now feels like a Lexus should...
Good luck!

Thanks for the great ideas.

My 460 certainly has more engine noise than my old 2nd gen GS300, of course in the cabin it's dead silent, but when at a drive through or something with the window down it sounds like a truck, has the same ticking style noise as the 350, but since I can't hear it in the car with the windows up it doesn't bother me. Seems most of the direct injection engines have that noise, curious to see if other brands have done better at making it less noticeable. The 430 isn't direct injection and also has a timing belt vs a chain, so id say that's probably the quietest bet for a 3rd gen GS.

The 460 is definitely louder, and even a bit more rough at idle than my last car ('95 SC400). I, too, notice the tick when in a parking garage or by a wall; but like you said, the cabin is pretty silent for the most part. The interior noise of the 350 is pretty loud, though.

I agree with the rest here, my 3.5L is quite loud, especially when cold. Sounds like a 4 banger.
Sometimes I feel embarrassed taking people around when the engine hasn't warmed up yet - its definitely not a Lexus-like characteristic. Even my 99 Solara's V6 engine isn't as loud on cold starts.

I've been driving a 2016 GS350 (Lexus loaner vehicle) for the past month while my 2008 GS350 is in the shop. This newer GS is much more advanced, as one would expect given the difference in age, and quieter in terms of road and wind noise. However, the engine in the 2016 GS is definitely louder when idling and the common ticking sound is much more noticeable than my 2008. The brake squeal is also really loud when the brakes are cold. Anyway, can't complain, it's a very nice loaner car to be driving around.

I think the 3.5L creates the most noise of any car/engine I've owned.. If its not the Injector noise, its the seemingly rod knocks that comes and goes. I hate it too, but can't hear it inside the cabin, so I shrug it off.. I'm certain attempts to quiet this beast may be frugal.
Here is my suggestion:
Dynamat Extreme and/or Dynaliner, wherever its feasible, hood, trunk etc.. They have kits and although installation is a project, its the best there is.. I installed this inside the cowl on my outboard and made a huge difference or at the very least the noise is manageable.
