Default Battery Connection

I live in the northeast and drive a 2011 GS350. I will be away for the months of January and February. I am wondering if the battery will be OK left connected for this length of time in the winter. Or if I disconnect it will I have any issues when I reconnect it. Lastly, should I connect a trickle charger to it (I would prefer not).

I've used the battery tender for years on old corvettes and motorcycles. Saves a lot of headache in the long run.

OK. So I ended up buying a Battery Tender Plus to use with the battery still attached. Everything says not to place the black ground on the battery post but instead on a remote point of the car. I understand the issue with hydrogen gas, spark, and explosion. But the vendor supplied alligator clips do not have enough slack on them to go barely beyond the space between the battery posts. If they want you to separate the clips between the positive battery post and a point on the vehicle (that isn't the negative battery post) how do you do this with barely a foot of separation built into the cables with clips??? Also, the literature talks about determining whether your battery is negative grounded or positive grounded. The cables off the battery are so congested I cannot readily confirm that the battery is negative grounded but everything says almost all 12V auto batteries are indeed negative grounded. I am assuming my 2011 GS is negative grounded via the black lead off the battery post. Any help?

Just connect the clips to the battery before you plug the tender into the wall. Pull up on the plastic covers to expose the battery terminals. The right side is the RED + side. The left one is the BLACK - side.
I've done this for 20 years, never blew up a battery yet.
