Hello kind folks.

I am thinking of flying one-way to Chicago to buy a 1-Owner, Clean Carfax 2008 GS 460 with 124,610 miles on it. What price is fair to pay for this realistically? The guy is asking $14,770.

What do you guys think? I put a lot of weight on the opinions of the knowledgeable people on ClubLexus forum boards so help a brother out! Thanks!

Sounds like a good deal to me. Couldn't hurt to start at $14,000 and maybe end up knocking a few hundred off. I paid $29,700 for my '08 460 back in April of 2014, but then again, it only had 16k on it. Still, 124k is nothing. If you're looking to nitpick on price, mention that the water pump likely needs to be replaced, along with the coolant and a few other fluids (oil, diff, transmission, etc). And either way, I'd do those fluids and the pump once you get it, just to be safe. Good luck, and keep us posted.

 

That seems like a fair deal. However, I would never buy a car from the salt belt and bring it to the South. I'd keep looking for a southern car that has been salt-free all its life.

 

I really appreciate the input and even the mere fact I am being responded to; thanks! Here are some facts about the car 1.) 1-owner 2.) Clean Carfax 3.) This car has always been owned/driven in the Chicago area 4.) However the Carfax only shows " 1 " Service Record and that is from this month at Meineke. I called the Meineke and asked what was done to the car and they said it was for a $200 job to patch a pipe that gets corroded because of salt over time.

However the below user tells me to avoid a salt-belt car ... which others have told me as well. It is one thing to avoid a salt-belt car period and another thing to say sure you can buy it but buy it at so and so price. I'm not sure how to approach it.

In all honesty, I, too, would avoid the salt belt like the plague. My friend bought an S2000 from Maine, and she regretted it every single time she took the car in for maintenance. ALWAYS something needing to be replaced. Best place to get cars from: Palm Springs, CA. Lots of old people with money who take care of their cars, dry as a bone, and chances are they were driven like babies, or rarely driven at all, haha. Arizona is another. Heck, here in WA as well. But yeah, I'd avoid the salt belt.

 

You must really want a Gs460. A Gs350 is a fine car and you should find plenty of them available at the color combo, options and mileage you want within your budget without travelling. I have a near perfect 2007 Gs350 with 86K miles with new struts, factory exhaust, new tires, new brakes. Full loaded with gray exterior and black interior my desired color
I had offers to buy it so I could get a Gs460 and pay a few thousand more for the upgrade, but I could not pull the trigger. It just wasn't worth the extra money and possibly extra maintenance to go into the Gs460. I wanted a V8, coming from an Ls430, Gs400 and Gs430, The 3.5 V6 is faster than the old V8 and sounds pretty good at wide throttle.

 

btw, here is that 2008 GS460 I has my eye on Craiglist Boston. It is a 1 owner with 77K miles on it for $17K. I was very tempted but just wasn't worth it for me since I have my Gs350 awd all sorted out with all major work just done within a year.

 

Didn't I see in a different thread where you just bought a GS460 last month for seemingly a better deal than this? Are you collecting?

 

If you are looking for a car that is from the south for a seemingly good price, check out Nxcess Motorcars here in Houston. They have a 2008 gs 350 with premium package, mark levinson, and navigation for just under $14k with 129k miles. I bought my wife's 2011 BMW X3 from them 3 years ago and it is perfect. I have a couple other friends that have bought cars from there as well and all have gotten fantastic deals for good cars. They sell all luxury car makes (Bentley, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, etc...) at near wholesale prices. I have no affiliation with them but would not hesitate to buy from them again if they had a car I wanted. They seem to be picky as most cars have all the options.

 

Listen to us southern guys and AVOID the northern cars at all cost! I grew up in NY and I told myself I would never buy a car North of VA no matter how good the deal is. You have no idea what those winter roads do to a car.

 

I was planning on keeping that one but something came up and sold that one to my brother lol. I like this generation (2006-2011) GS' body the best and love the sound, performance and smoothness of the 460 model.

That is a nice car however the miles are too high for that price. I would try to knock them down a thousand or more on the price.
