Default Ever wonder about sloppy repair work?

I had the fuel pressure sensor recall done recently, and I got the car back with 2 plastic pins missing from the engine compartment covers.

car went in with all of the pins in place.
No big deal, I have a bag of pins and I can replace them.

But then I wonder, if they're careless about small things like pins, are they putting my engine back together with all the bolts and screws???

My dad once told me a story about a coworker who used to work the Ford assembly line. They would sometimes put in 3 bolts where 4 were required.

One day, if my engine fails, it may be hard to prove the dealership was the cause.

I stopped taking mine to the Lexus dealer here in Bellevue, WA. Got my gs back from an oil change with tons of pins missing, several paint chips on my driver's side door, including one that was was caused by the door being opened against a wall or something since the gash went all the way through the protective plastic strip on the door's edge. You can just tell they aren't very careful there. Going to just do a bunch on my own, and for the stuff I can't do, I'll take it to a local shop where I know they do good work.

I've never had any missing but I've had broken ones not replaced after work. After talking to the service manager about it the blame is on Lexus. They should include replacing those when doing work that requires the covers to be removed during a recall or warranty work. Lexus is trying to save a dime because the dealers can't bill them for those parts. My dealer, after several complaints now replaces all those clips when doing work that requires the covers to be removed. I'd be willing to bet that either the clips completely broke when they were taking them out or that they fell out afterwards because they were so brittle.

You still need to notify the dealer of your displeasure...if they blow you off then find another dealer. I always walk around and look under the hood and underneath the car before I leave.

They cracked my engine cover last time I had a recall done, it took forever to get it replaced by them.
