Has anyone actually had a timing belt break on them?

Thanks for the response 93SCMax. It's reassuring to know that I may still have a little time to work with. Since the dealer told me that it had a chain vs. a belt, I'm planning to see if he would give me a price break on the replacement. Again, appreciate the response.

If you have the chain and not the belt, you don't need to replace it unless it's making a lot of noise, or it's stretched. The whole idea of the chain is to increase durability, and thus avoid needing a replacement. The downside of a chain is that it's noisier than a belt.
I'd still replace the serpentine belt, but pass on the chain replacement.
I've got a GS 350 and it has the chain. I wasn't sure about the GS 430. If you are sure it has a chain, then you are good to go.
