Default Swapping Navigation DVD Player Unit

How much effort is this? Couldn't find a DIY.

Basically, my navigation won't read the disk anymore and I'm looking at replacing it with a used one.

Thanks.

Create an account at techinfo.toyota.com, $15 for two days and it will show everything you need to know and some. You didn't state which car your having problems with but below are basic instructions for an 2006. If you want pictures or don't know how to remove specific panels go to techinfo its well worth the $15.

From looking at the pictures it doesn't seem hard but you may want the diagrams that show how to remove all the panels.

1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION:

Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

2. REMOVE FRONT CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH

3. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL ASSEMBLY

4. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END RH

5. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH

6. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER RH

7. REMOVE INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL RH

8. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

9. REMOVE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY

10. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR SUB-ASSEMBLY

11. REMOVE NAVIGATION ECU WITH DISC PLAYER BRACKET

(a) Disconnect the connectors.

(b) Remove the 3 bolts and navigation ECU.

12. REMOVE NO. 2 DISC PLAYER BRACKET

(a) Remove the 2 screws and bracket.

13. REMOVE NO. 1 DISC PLAYER BRACKET

(a) Remove the 2 screws and bracket.

14. REMOVE NAVIGATION ECU

See attached PDF. There is pretty good guide on how to get to the nav ECU.

Thanks all!

Dang that's more work than I had hoped for though. Nothing I can't do, just more than I had hoped.

Any tips on fixing the "unable to read dvd" error code prior to replacing? I've got a cleaner disc, but not sure it actually gets to the cleaning brushes part of the cd when I play the disc. Also read that it's probably not dirt, but the laser motor itself.

Anyways, any suggestions before I replace hardware? Was working before I shipped the car back to the states, but it did have a few cases here and there where it acted up prior so it was probably on its way out.
