Default 5w-30 vs 5w-20

So what oil do you guys use? I know our manual says 5w-30 but there was a TSB in 06 to switch to 5w-20 even though all the gs350s post that tsb still recommend 5w-30 in the manuals. So what are you guys using?

I have only had my 2008 GS350 for 4000 miles and have performed one oil change so far - I used Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 5W-30. However, I am leaning toward switching to 5W-20 from the next oil change.

I'm no oil guy so can't respond. Go by the recommendation in the manual.

What difference would it make switching from 5w-30 to 5w-20? Why are some using other then recommended by lexus.

It was not only that. I swapped to get the little inch of better gas mileage.... On the highway it makes a big diff, my next switch might be to venture into 0w-20 for better mileage. Either way I get ZERO leaks (since it's a thinner weight oil) I get ZERO burning, and I lose a half quart every 7500 miles. It seems to run fairly well with 5w-20, and the oil chart says I can go as low as 5w-20 so I stuck with it.

If you don't feel comfortable going a lighter weight oil, simply don't do it

I'm new to the Lexus bough an 06 GS300 AWD with only 54,000 kms on it, I've put another 3,000 kms since buying it.

Just did an oil change and opted for 5w-20... not sure what was in it before BUT did notice as it got colder out ( note: location ON, Canada ) the engine was noisy ( tick ) sounding on morning start ups.

I've put 500 kms on this oil change using the 5w-20, the cold starts are much better ( less noise ) but I haven't really noticed any increase in fuel economy ?

I went to the 20 for cold start and will switch back to 30 in the spring.

You won't notice it since it's cold now, if there's snow there's more resistance, consider wind values too. Essentially, you shouldn't notice a CRAZY # in MPGs.... but it's there. That's why Toyota has 0w-20 for fuel economy cars.

I'm tempted by 5w20 but Not sure about using the thinner oil for the 152000miles my car has covered! I do a round trip of 150 miles, 4 days a week, in my GSh and it's due an oil and filter change. Should I stick to the 5w30 due to excessive mileage, or give 5w20 a shot? I'll also add some of this stuff as was recommended highly by the Lexus independent i visited recently!
