Default Changing gears with dead battery?

Hi everyone,
I ran into a situation today where my battery was completely dead - long back story.
Anyway, I had to jump start my car, luckily I had long jumper cables. But I noticed the car wouldn't get out of Park. I held the brake down. I applied the Parking brake and tried that. I also applied the regular brake with the parking brake engaged. I bought the car used and don't have a manual. I did try searching for the answer, with no luck. Any tips?

Back story:
I bought this car two months ago at a dealership. It has been fine until Saturday, I drove probably 50 miles, I let the car sit for about 4 hours, I went to the trunk to try to open it, it wouldn't open. I try to unlock the door, it doesn't open (this is all with the keyless entry, btw). I hooked up my battery to a friends car with jumper cables, as soon as we did, my alarm was going off. I pushed the unlock button on the keys to stop the alarm. Car starts up fine. Next morning, same thing, no power at all, couldn't unlock doors. I decided the easiest thing to do was to buy a new battery. I had O'Reilly (auto parts store here in the USA) test the Battery and Alternator. the alternator was fine cranking out about 14 volts. I shut off the car so we could test the battery, battery was measuring at 300 amps, the sticker on the battery said 600 amps. So I bought a new battery. New battery has 725 Cranking amps. As soon as I hook up the new battery, my radio turns on, everything is great. I start the car no problem. I let the car sit overnight (at least 12 hours). I start it in the morning, it turns on fine. I got to work at 830am, try to leave for work around 1230pm, no power at all again. Now I'm at the dealership where I bought the car. Anyone else run into these kinds of issues?

Update:
Dealership went thru a more thorough test than O'Reilly did, my alternator only works correctly half the time. They are replacing it under warranty.

if i understand you correctly, on the shift plate top left corner there is a little cover with a slot. you need to use a flathead or so to pop it open. then you need to stick the head head in and that will release the shifter lock so you can put the car in N
