2008 GS460 - Spark Plug Replacement
#31
Do it yourself. I mean, really. Never changed spark plugs on my GS430 and took me less than 30 min. Had numerous sized extensions which helped. It's an easy job, watch a few YouTube videos. Better yet, fly me to Vagas, pay for some of my gambling, lunch and fly me back and I'll change out your spark plugs for a cheaper price than what your gonna pay?

I had 110 k on my car and my plugs appear to be way better condition. That's odd

I just did the ones on my 450h (the dealer quoted me about $300-$400). It was a pain, I had to remove the intake manifold. The manifold is bolted down will Allen-key type bolts, so make sure you have a proper set handy (metric).

Sorry to bring it back from the dead but I just called lextech a reputable Lexus shop in Miami in regards to changing out the plugs on the 460 and was told the motor would have to be tilted side to side to get the cool packs out and would be 4-6 hours of labor. Does that sound accurate for spark plugs???

I don't think so, I had my plugs and brake fluid changed at Lexus on my 460 and only paid like $400 for both, the plugs were only like 300. So I'm guessing it can't be that labor intensive.

thats what I thought. I never heard of that lol and he asked me for like 4-490 wtf lol.

Are there any gs460 specific write ups or vids anywhere?
EDIT...gotta pull the seal on the valve cover with the coil.

Just get the right tools, check first on front plugs that the depth is right (you don't have much clearance for #3 and #7 due to strut towers), always pull the valve cover seals first (the hard rubber bit under the ignition coil, not the often loose, softer rubber tube seal that slides down easily - if you don't then you have to jack the engine, waste of time), replace the spark plug tube seals while you do it.
If you have to remove much/any stuff you don't have the right tools so either spend more time removing stuff or get some cheap wobble extension drives. Magnetic pickup for plugs is useful too.

Debating attempting to DIY or letting the shop do the labor.
