Default AM - Sat button on radio

I own a 2008 GS 350 no nav.

Can I get a free trial subscription (to test it) for satellite radio?.......or do I need to install satelittle radio in my car to even get it?

If i can get a free trial how do i do this?

If you have sat. you will get the preview channel. No preview channel when you push the am/sat button you need a module to get it.

It is the receiver. I think it is fairly expensive and requires dealer installation. I have inquired on both a BMW and Infiniti I owned in the past and it was not cheap.

Yopeterson,

I checked with Roberts Mobile Electronics here in Louisville. They specialize in radio - electronics installation in high end cars. $575 for receiver which includes installation. Pretty pricey. Think I will pass.

No preview channel when I press AM-SAT button.......so I assume I need receiver.

Where in KY do you live?

As a reference:
I purchased a used OEM XM receiver off eBay for $80. Found a brand new OEM install kit for a little over a $100 out of Denver. Did the install myself in about 30-45 minutes (I took my time..).

Another way to find the receiver, brackets and wiring harnesses is via online auto salvage sites. Sign up, request parts, and different salvage yards respond with availability and price. Definitely don't spend over $250 for the parts let alone any labor. Given a 1-10 scale of difficulty the OEM install comes in at about a 2 or 3...

KJSmitty,

Did the Lexus shark fin antenna work for the installed satelitte radio OR did you have to also install a separate antenna?

The shark fin ant works - is functional. I installed all factory XM parts (receiver and harness/bracket kit). Once you remove the trunk lining the shark fin antenna cable/harness is just fixed to the trunk structure waiting for you to plug into your OEM receiver etc.

Cheers

Thumbs up

Hey guys...another option is to contact Sirius-XM and, if you get their service, they will give you a basic receiver for free. I did that on my '03 GX470 and am going to use the same unit on the '07 GX we just got. Installation is a bit of a pain (hiding the wires, etc.) but it's cheap!
