Default question about updating nav

hey guys.

so right now i'm not sure what firmware i'm running in my gen 4 06 GS430 but i'm able to do the nav hack trick where i go to the volume screen and press on the top left and bottom left 2x and then the override option pops up so i can have full access while driving.

i was thinking of updating my nav to version 11.1 but i'm wondering if doing so will make it impossible to do the nav hack trick.

any advice greatly appreciated.

cheers.

Hit either the DEST or MENU button and then the MAP DVD button on the screen and that should give you the version I believe. Thats how it was on my '08. I recently changed mine to v11.1 Gen 5 and it works fine. You should still be able to do the nav hack trick.

After the update it won't be possible to do that bypass. done it on mine, a bit annoying though. If you want, program all of it into the memory buttons. when driving those memories button still works.

I thought it wouldn't be affected...you can still input an address while driving using the voice command feature.

one thing that drives me crazy about inputting address on this nav is that you have to know the exact street affix.

for instance if i'm going to 95 Montgomery there will be a montgomery ave, lane, st, cir etc

on my aftermarket unit it will auto know which one is the correct choice for the city i'm going to but on the lexus nav it will pop up a bunch of them i'll have to guess and then when i pick the wrong one it will say "no such house number on that street" and i have to keep guessing.

is there any way around this? was it addressed in the later versions?

thanks!

This is correct, Toyota/Lexus deleted the ability to do the bybass after version 5.1... version 11.1 is WAY past that... though you can create a combo version 5.1/11.1 that will let you have your cake and eat it too.

is there any improvement in the interface and functionality or is it just expanded routes/POI and road recognition?
