Default pistons??

I have an 06 GS300. 73k on it. I finally took it in to the dealership for the fuel pipe recall and I told them that the check engine light and traction light and the exclamation point all came on the day before and that it ran rough for a few seconds then the lights went away and it ran fine. The codes were stored in the computer and they said "they needed to re-ring the pistons". They are doing this at no charge!! They have had it for 20 days as of today. They said it was a huge job and they are doing it at no charge even though my power train warranty is up because starting Jan 2012 this is a "bulletin item" that they have begun to fix.
Here is my question- Since this is such a huge job and it sounds as though they have taken my entire engine apart, what should I expect when I get it back?? I am afraid that by taking it apart, I will have more problems than when I took it there. Does anyone have experience with this issue at all??

lol! They put me in a new ES loaner so I am not without a car all this time. I just can't imagine why it is taking so long though..I am sure it would have been expensive if I had to pay for it. ..I don't know what the typical time frame for that job would be..

I think 3 weeks is too long. I would check up with them and make sure that they haven't had any problems.

Is this considered a TSB or a recall campaign? I guess another way to word, if those of us that are long past our warranty will be covered?

It is just a TSB. L-SB-0069-11 It states that the repair is covered under powertrain warranty, and is a 32 hour job. Sound like your dealer gave you some Goodwill assistance on that one!

There is no listed Service Campaign for this issue on Toyota TIS.....

32 Hour job? Well I am grateful that they did the repair at no charge!! I can't even imagine what the cost would have been on that kind of repair. Does anyone know?? They still have the car. I will be going into week 4 without it on Monday. The tech drove it home (to his house) after he put it back together and evidently had a few "concerns" . That was Wednesday. Last night someone else drove it. Should I ask for some kind of reasonable time period that if anything "strange" happens or if any major failure happens that I can return it back to them? Again, I am just concerned with it being totally dismantled. Maybe I should have opted to not have it done.

If it were me, I wouldn't like having them drive MY personal car home! They have plenty of time during the day to drive your car and diagnose and "concerns" they have. I cannot believe it's taking them 4 weeks!! You would think at some poing (several weeks ago), the Lexus rep would have gotten involved and investigated what's taking so long.

That TSB has been superseded by L-SB-0125-12. Attached is the new TSB. Also, I see that you're in Toronto. This TSB is for the USA market only.

Thanks.

If I take my car across the border, what would happen? Does the car have to be registered in the USA to apply for this recall?

Just checked, my extended cpo powertrain warrany is up by 9,000km... ****!

Just called Northtown Lexus in Buffalo, they said is has to be a US VIN vehicle to apply for the recall.

I guess time to start harrassing every dealer in the GTA and firing off tons of emails to Lexus Canada.

Does this issue effect all GS300's?

Ive a late 05 third gen GS 300 and all the above lights the OP explains came on my car. Didn't run rough as such but then again I haven't been driving it much.

All the lights are away now, obviously im in Northern Ireland, UK. Would this issue still effect me and will are dealers stand over the re-ring issue?

Car only has 69000 miles on it.

Thanks,

Chris
