Default Poor engineering

This is just a rant and a question... I found old threads on this topic, but didn't want to bring them back up.

I just discovered the good old wet floor symptoms in my GS. How pathetic is this engineering!?!

Anyway, my car is long out of warranty and there are no other valid warranties available.

I am getting ready to call my dealership, who has serviced my LS exclusively for the last few years. I just bought this 2006, and they have never seen it. This GS has been serviced faithfully since new at a different Lexus dealer in another state (several hours away).

So my question is:

How should I approach this topic with my local Lexus service advisor? I believe there were service bulletins about the clogged A/C drain. If this was done before, was it a permanent fix? If it was not done before, should they do it out of warranty?

I am trying not to incur a hefty charge for something that is Lexus' fault.

Thanks in advance.

probably an easy fix why complain its a known problem and you bought a USED car!!!! why is it lexus's fault? a/c drains clog in almost every car its the nature of the system as it removes the moisture from your car it has to drain it add dust and you get mud which in almost everycar with a/c will eventually clog the drain

Ok, I guess I'll take it in stride, but I have been driving for 20 years and have only had wet floors in my open top Jeep and Broncos, but that was expected. I've had 5 Lexuses since 2000... no wet carpets.

You guys don't find it odd that the TSIB only addresses the 06-07 GS and IS? To me, that seems like bad engineering in a new model which was subsequently re-engineered...

The service advisor told me that they can just remove a mesh screen which gets clogged and I won't have the problem anymore. (Why doesn't every Lexus dealer proactively do this?)

My issue is with mold/mildew... i guess I am going to drop a bunch of cash on new carpeting and pads to ensure I don't get any adverse effects from this example of faulty engineering.

Best way is just run a dehumidifier in the car that will dry it out nicely ori if you have long comute I suggest turn on the a/c with a warmest setting you can deal with and put it on floor setting on recirculate this will use the car itselfs a/c as a dehumidifier and dry it out nice and quick

First I've heard about some clogged mesh screen. How much did they say it would cost to have this meshectomy done?

I've never had this issue and my car is an 06, but this is another case of my nonscientific observation that it only seems to happen to people down south where it's hot and humid all the time. We only get hot and humid a few months of the year and the car spends a good deal of time running the AC just as a defogger in freezing cold so I think the lifecycle of the nasties that grow and eventually clog the system just doesn't get a chance to really thrive.

Okay, so where is this mesh? I'm finding damp carpet. BTW, I just changed the A/C filter. Could that have anything to do with it. I began to smell the damp carpet just after installing the filter. TIA..........Tom

Agree w OP on this one...I have owned a number of cars for greater than 10 years each...NEVER encountered this with any of them.

I hope this doesnt happen to me. Good luck OP...maybe find a lower cost shop that could do this (lower than dealer that is).
