Don't take this wrong, but I have to ask...
1. Battery is connected and secured properly?
2. Battery is charged?
3. When doing the swap, none of the contacts touched the car while the other was still connected?
Get some jumper cables. let the jumper car run for a while to get a fairly decent charge on your battery. See if anything changes.

wouldn't be first time a "new" battery is bad off the shelf...
Good to always have store test and show you report before just taking it out of store assuming all is good.
Get battery tested first then look to electrical system... unless of course you know you left car on after swapping. In which case, you just need to fix the short between steering wheel and seat
Good luck

i actually figured it out. idk why my brake was pressed and stayed stiff, but i pressed it even harder and pushed the button and it started. like i said though, still confused as to why the cars brake pedal stayed down and stiff

When was the last time the brake system was flushed or even bled? Hopefully not, but you may be having problems w/ the master cylinder or at a min w/ water in the lines. Since you sound like an above avg DIYer, I'd suggest [at least] bleeding the brakes as a starting point...
Good luck
